I wonder if the XKR-S GT used this subframe

Would have to get someone with a parts catalogue for xkr-s gt to cross reference however I do recall Cambo stating the xkr-s gt and f type share the same rear cradle however that's no good for us as both are steel .

Well, should balance out better anyway. Much closer to 50/50 front vs rear

Spot on and reduce some of that nasty oversteer we tend to get with these vehicles

Default Weight reduction benefits?

I understand "oversteer" to be where the car responds with a tighter circle or smaller turning radius than the driver input intends.
A typical cause of oversteer might be a loss of traction on the rear with resultant sideways slip that points the car toward the center of the turn/circle.
A reduction of frontmost mass would not seem to correct that situation.

Reduced overall mass: lighter weight, reduced stopping distance, improved fuel economy, faster acceleration. That's good enough for me.

Another armchair expert that brings absolutely nothing to this thread

Sorry that I hurt your feelings Steve.
You invested a lot of time speculating that the aluminum F-Type subframe would bolt onto your XK. You took measurements, made a sketch and shared.
So, maybe you thought it unkind of me to question your comment about front-end weight reduction affecting "oversteer".
If so, I apologize. No harm meant.
However, inquiring minds and readers of your thread want to know: would you be so kind as to explain your definition of "oversteer" and how the proposed frontmost weight reduction would affect vehicle dynamics, specifically oversteer?

PS: I do agree that an overall/general weight reduction is a good thing.

Best regards,
Bill

I might be resurrecting a nearly 2 year old thread, but have you had any chance fitting the f type subframe since then? Or has it gone down the priority list of things to do?

I'm in need of a replacement subframe (due to heavy corrosion), and if the f type subframe is a straight swap with no alteration needed (i.e all control arms fitting at the right spots) it might well be the path I will follow.

I'd be interested as well. Mine is also badly corroded. Why not upgrade while we're there, eh? Besides, XK/XKR parts availability is only going to get worse.

It'll fit I've done all the measurements and a few of us here are actually running f type steering racks (faster ratio) I've also got f type engine mounts on mine as they were cheaper then xkr variety

Love to see folks doing the complex stuff. The subframe swap is a really interesting fix, particularly for those whose steel frames are rotting (very common in the UK, it seems).
