What I did to get rid of the super-obvious headlights is to wrap them in 10% headlight tint. Now, not only are the headlight WAY less in-your-face, but it also has a little bit of the newer Aston Martin blacked-out look.
It looked so good that I bought another roll of film for $20 and did the tail lights as well.

Here are a few, forgive the crappy pictures and dirty car.

No brake dust! (less than ten miles since cleaned)

Cee Jay, is the headlight tint 'regular' type window tint, or is it specifically for headlights. I would be a bit concerned that it might get discoloured or something due to the heat from the lights. The lights look good with the tint…. they blend in with the colour of your car.

It's specifically made for headlights. It's a pretty heavy duty softish vinyl that also stretches quite a bit to wrap around very curvy surfaces easily with a hair dryer. It's made out of basically the same stuff as Clear Bra type material so it protects from rocks and such also.
The place I got mine from on eBay is zero balance right now, but any search for Headlight Tint will come up with hundreds of results in a myriad of colors.
It really is quite easy to install, but somewhat easier with two extra hands at some points. I took off all the fuzzy stickum that covers parts of the headlights so it would stick that little bit better, then spray adhesived the fuzzy stuff back into place. Same as the tail lights.

I wouldn't go much past the 10% film for safety's sake.
