Failing Adhesive in the Rear Window of Convertible Top - Another Angle
Hi All,
Further to the many threads on the "Failing Adhesive in the Rear Window of Convertible Top" issue, I thought I would try something different on my car.
I currently have tried the DIY fix as noted in other threads but feel this will not hold long-term as I am already experiencing some water leakage during heavy rains.
My thinking is to perhaps add a ~2" wide gasket on the outside circumference, adhered to the roof fabric overlapping about one inch, and adhered to the glass itself by ~1" (requiring a slight drop down of about 1/4" in the middle of the width of the gasket.) Would look like this... ------------------|_____________ ...but about 3/8" thick or so. The dimension are flexible as I can live with a slightly small rear window area to look out of.
My problem is where to source such a (somewhat hard & thicker rubber) gasket.
What comes to mind is the approach taken with the earlier X100 rear windows as shown in the below picture.
Can anyone help with the part number for the X100 gasket (if it is even sold separately) and/or a source for this gasket or something similar I can use?
And yes I am aware that the X100 application was most likely a factory laminated part of the roof design, and that even if it was a separate part it would most likely now be NLA.
I am just looking for something similar to it, to install in addition to what the X150 already has.
This probably will work, and it's inexpensive. I'd stick the 3M adhesive strip to the glass, as I doubt that it will adhere to the fabric unless you use Rhino Glue.
