few questions - usb mp3 music
recently purchased a 2010 XK and have a few questions related to the usb mp3 music.
1. it seems everytime i start the car up with the setting on usb or i switch to usb, it doesnt detect the usb thumb drive. so i have to reseat it again to get it to start working? any chance there is some firmware upgrade that fixes this? anybody have this issue or ideas on how to provent.
2. there is no RANDOM play option. so becuase of the first issue, italways starts over at the beginning and just plays straight through. again, any chance there is a firmware upgrade to get this option?
thanks, david

For the first issue have you tried a different USB? I had a few issues with some sticks where I would have to pull them out and pop them back in, and others were fine. And then oddly enough I found that one or two of the tracks would make the media crash and reboot. From memory I converted them to a different format.

I have had a memory stick work fine for months, then not work properly.
I brought it into the computer, took off and added some files, put it back in the car, and it worked again.
Oddly, simply unplugging the USB, and putting it back in did not fix it. I had to make changes on the computer.

My 2010 has a "Random" option. Thing is, it won't change folders (I have a LOT of folders - 611). What I did is leave all the songs IN the folders and then ALSO put every one in the Root Directory. It doubled-up the used memory and now my 128 GB stick is plum-full.
Now the Random works for every one of those 8-10,000 songs, and I can choose each artist separately if I want. It DOES take a minute or so to load each time I start the car tho.

I know our cars are fickle with memory sticks made by scan disc. You can reformat it (google Fat32 reformat). Reload your music & your problem should go away. There is something about the way scan disc formats their stick (although its still a Fat32) that confuses our cars. If your stick is mfg by someone else its still worth a try.
