I have a 2009 Jaguar XKR with less than 20K miles on it. Convertible. I was told the brakes on the front needed a new lining. Seems a little early. Thinking maybe the dealer needs a new roof after the rains in So. Cal. Your thoughts?

Actually you probobly close by our standards. Which in many times meens you have more time left. But if we let everyone go until they were at 2mm pad material or less. There would be alot of complaints about "i was just here and why didnt you tell me then i needed pads? Now im down to metal and need rotors too. You can give me rotors free!" so........that meens we normally look at pads a gauge wether they would make it till the next visit/service. If close or no then we recommend now.
If you take a flash light you can see yourself most times throught the wheel. Keep in mind that the inner pad is always alittle thinner than the outer youre looking at. And if you have brembo or alcan hiperf brakes theyre very easy to diy if you want. The regular pads arent bad either if you want to mess with it. Im more surprised you dont need rear pads cause they wear faster then fronts on new jags

Default Jaguar Brake Issue

You're right. I meant the rear brakes. Thanks.

I can confirm that the back wear quickly and yes at about 20,000 mls. My guess is that the with adaptive cruise and the stability control that the computer is using the back breaks a lot more than you might realise.
