That is an amazing price. Local or out of state? CPO car? There are a few cars I would consider buying but don't find it feasible due to the long distance at which the cars are located. It would be helpful to find a reputable outfit to check the car. Do they put the car up on a lift?

Yes, it's the 5.0. I drove one over in Tampa two weeks ago and was stunned by the performance. In regular drive mode it felt like my 07 XK in sport mode. It also rides better. While it looks like my 07, it feels like a totally different car.

I'm amazed by the price as well, though it's not s good as my 07. I bought that in Feb of 2010 for $38k and it had 5600 miles on it at the time. This car is out of state at a dealer. One owner, always serviced there and is under warranty until April. I'm having it shipped here for $700 as long as it passes inspection. The Lemon Squad folks do not put it on a lift but will check all systems, do a five mile test drive, and, if you get the upgrade inspection, they'll plug in a scanner that checks engine and trans.

I had the 5 litre in my second XF - it is a great engine. Even though I got the XKR and I'd have to suck on lemons to take the smile off my face when driving it, I think the XK might have been a bit easier for everyday use. My car fishtails at the slightest provocation, eg when trying to launch quickly into a break in the traffic.

In a straight line it's faster than many 911's but you do still feel the weight. One thing that is very different - even in non Rs - is the Torque. jeremy Clarkson is hilarious when he does the comparison of the XJR and the M5 and he touts the massive tq this unbelievable 5.0 has. AND it comes in just above the line for paying a gas guzzler tax!

I hope the 2010 XK works out. Sounds like you're in the same boat (or was) as myself. I bought my 2007 XK 2 years ago with 7k miles. Today it has 22k and I'm looking at moving up to either a 5.0l XK or XKR. While my 07 XK has been trouble free, beautiful, and is in pristine condition but behind the wheel it just doesn't get my heart racing- anymore. Friends have the XF with the 5.0l naturally aspirated and I can tell it has much more grunt than the 4.2. Will the 5.0l XK do it for me or will I regret not getting an XKR? Of course I'll be test driving both but I'm looking forward to your review especially that you've lived with the 4.2. Good luck.

I would love an '10, but reality says I would still be happy with a low miles '09 as well. Sadly my XK is pristine, but approaching 70K miles, so her market value isn't helping me a lot...

I have the 09 XKR convertible with a 4.2L supercharged engine. I can tell you that even though it's a 4.2L not a 5.0L, this car has more power and more thrust than I would need or want. On American roads and highways we can only drive so fast, speeds are controlled as you all know.
While many posters/members of this forum feel that the 4.2L vs 5.0L doesn't cut the mustard for speed and performance, I can certainly attest that is not true. The power of acceleration is quite awesome as well as overall performance.
Don't rule out a purchase 2009 of a XKR ever, just because you may think your missing out on performance. This baby is like a rocketship.

i'lllet you know. The car should be down here end of next week or first of the following week. I stayed away from the XKR because I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be once the warranty was done. And After driving the 5.00, I figure it has all the power I need.

<sigh> I'm there with ya Steve... I'm 2 years into my '07 XK, and already looking at the 2010's. My problem is income level! After all, I barely made a used XK! Those at my level think I did very well to get into such a great car, but all it did was wet my appetite for an XKR! Yeash!

There's always a better car and that does not end; even if your pockets are the deepest. Be happy with what you have.
