Front bumper panel removal XKR?
Firstly may I say 'Hello" as this is my first post and just joined this forum.
I am thinking of changing the front grills for some stainless wire type. I would like to know if anyone can help with any kind of diagrams/illustrations etc if poss so I can see just how much a task it is going to be.
I am guessing it will be quite a job, has anyone removed their front bumper panel on an aluminium xk/xkr?
Any help/advice is much appreciated, thank you.
Chris.

It takes a little work but is definitely doable for the average guy. The biggest chore is just removing all of the fasteners...I recommend an electric screwdriver (you will need star bits as well). You have fasteners on the top under the lip of the hood, fasteners under the bottom to the under trays, and fasteners in the wheel well to the liners (in fact I think it may be easier to completely remove the liners for access...which means probably easier to remove the wheels as well). I can't remember for sure but I believe you can leave the lights in (although not a huge task to remove them as well...don't forget the bolt in the fender well on the back of the lights if you do remove them). When you get all of the fasteners out the bumper cover (there are I believe two or so push fasteners that you can leave in on the top and just lift the top lip to disengage them from the structure) it simply pulls forward off of the hangers on either side (if there is any real resistance check to make sure all of the fasteners are removed as there are quite a few). You also have to disconnect the wiring harnesses on the drivers side (I remember several connectors) to completely take the cover off the car. It really isn't as bad as it sounds but will probably take an hour or so.

Thanks very much, I have a pretty good idea in my empty head what to expect. I think what might really help is if I could look at a diagram showing all the fasteners and various electrical connectors etc. I guess it's down to lazyness as it is too easy to put it off and think is it worth it just to fit two grills.
I was thinking of changing the silver vents on the wings/fenders and I know to do this properly you have to remove the inner liners so I might hang on until I have bought these and do it all at once. Sounds like a good plan to me
Thank you,
Chris.
