Front connection to charge battery?

To elaborate a bit on Richard's post, that rubber cap is behind the rear wheel, left side and facing down and about a foot rear of that tire. That's where the power from the positive battery terminal is located. There is also a clean ground lug in the same vicinity.

To elaborate a bit on Cee Jay's post, that remote positive terminal behind the driver's side rear wheel extends upward, through the body, and into a compartment in the trunk that's behind a removable black plastic cover.
That's where I attached my CTEK MUS4.3 using the positive (+) alligator clip.
The negative (- ) alligator clip is attached to the ground terminal in front of the spare tire.
The CTEK wires are thin enough to fit under the trunk lid without being damaged when it's closed, and it sits on my garage floor while charging.

Let’s not confuse the OP in his current dilemma.
That positive post is available on the exterior of the car, behind the left rear wheel well (as stated earlier), under the body. There may or may not be a rubber cap over it, and it may or may not be labeled. From the OP’s picture, it appears he has access to that area to connect jumper cables.

Until you get the battery fully charged or buy a new battery the car will keep displaying many faults. As the battery has been completely exhausted it is almost certainly ruined as far as the Jaguar is concerned and you will have no choice but to replace it.
The key is upside down so I'm surprised that it has engaged at all. If you cannot press it down any further to release the catch, and it does look as if it is fully depressed already, then I can't see that you have any choice other than to ensure that the gearbox is in Park and the engine is off and then use a small lever or screwdriver and force it out.

Your battery WAS new. Now it is an abused old battery. Unless you can get it reconditioned, which only works SOMETIMES, you will need a new one.

My choice for this car is an AGM, since this generation electronics is quite nervous about lower voltages and AGM delivers high amp at more constant voltages. For the XJ here in Europe this would be a e.g. 'Varta LA95 Professional AGM 95AH Batterie' or equivalent (eventually an 'Exide EP800 Dual AGM 95Ah') - this is the biggest size (353 x 175 x 190 mm) that fit's the XJ, have a closer look what fits your battery box.
If classic & in same size: Bosch S5 013 100Ah or Varta H3 Silver Dynamic 100Ah (600 402 083).
(Note: As I have seen, battery manufacturers with buying aid on website usually recommend smaller battery with less than 80Ah - I wouldn't do that)

BMS is something you need for Li-Ion or LiFePo4 batteries, never heard of BMS for a single AGM battery.
AGM is lead acid technology in a better way and therefore more expensive. But brings some benefits like no spills due to closed design. If you drive your Jaguar not every day for many miles, AGM could be your better option.
