The boys over in the Ferrari community have had the same issues. A few of them got warnings and then tickets when they were caught again. In NY the fine varies but usually the 1st offence is $150 and if you are lucky enough to get caught twice it goes to $500. I have seen some who have fought it but the law is specific and they have lost. Even using the excuse "it's on order from the dealer" doesn't do it anymore. It's a money game.

I haven't put a front plate on a car in years, but my new to me '11 XK already had the plate holder attached to the front bumper (TX). Luckily my car is white and so is the plate. That along with the black lower grill makes it all look pretty good. I don't have to worry every time I see a patrol car anymore, so it take away a little bit of the sting knowing that there are holes in my front bumper.

I've always found it odd that some US states didn't require front plates - everywhere else I've been, you always need both. Fortunately, Euro-spec plates are wider & shallower than US ones, so they fit better between the upper & lower grilles:

If you want to remove the holder then go to bumperplugs and get plugs for your holes. Problem solved.

Argh... just got stopped and provisioned with a formal warning concerning my lack of front plates... Now to trial and error suitable temporary solutions. Thanks for all the thoughts.

Cheers!

Even though I don't like front plates (we need them in NY also) I think this looks pretty good on your white XK.

Just another reason to live in Florida, sunshine, no state income taxes and NO FRONT PLATES! When looking to buy a 2010 xk I eliminated a few cars just because they had front plates. It really degrades the look of a beautiful piece of art.

Thanks for the info on bumper plugs.

They want to know the Color Code. Do you know where it is on a 2012 XK convertable?

Thanks

There's a label on the left-hand door frame, above the latch. The paint code (3 letters) is on that.

I've owned my E-Type since 1973. I have yet to add that very complicated
bracket to hold the plate. I have yet to be pulled over for not having that front plate. I do have it in the car and am prepared to tell them (Policia) I have the bracket on order. I think the "WOW" factor has caused the local policia from looking at the nose. LOL!

I gotta say, it just doesn't make sense that the police can cite you for no front plate when all they will ever see is your rear plate..........

I got pulled for speeding by a state trooper....he beat the K40 in my XK Then he gave me second ticket for not having a front plate. The cop got smart asking me why I thought the Secretary of State sent two plates. I said well it was originally a Michigan car so the front had never been drilled. I said perhaps the extra plate was a spare, in case one got dirty.
So now the cop, all full of his power issue two situations, which means I have to appear in court. So I spoke to a cop friend of mine, who said, duct tape the front plate on, take some photos with it in place. Go to court and apologize to the judge and tell him I reluctantly drilled the beautiful front end of my Jag and hear are the pics........the judge said, "that is. A shame, that car shouldn't have a plate spoiling it's look. The front plate is a waste, but it is the law. In IL." However. No fine or any charge for the plate! Minimum $125 for speeding ticket. Just an FYI if anyone finds themes elves in a similar situation.

Well guys, all of this talk about the front license plate cause me to call the seller of my yet, undelivered, '08 Portfolio. I asked him if the car had a Lic. plate bracket on the front, he said "no, do you want me to have it installed?" I stated, "NO", just throw it in the trunk, I'll figure it out later. It's a good thing I questioned him as the nose was refinished to remove road rash. Whew! As I mentioned earlier, my E-Type has never been stopped for not having it's front tag. It's been 42-43 years?

Was pulled over this weekend by the friendly troopers. $70 ticket in MD. Now installed a Skene design low profile holder which drills the holes underneath.

This is what it used to look like ....

Well, my Jag neighbor, I too, will follow the Skene design...as I do not want to share a similar experience with our MD troopers.
I thought at some point, MD was going to drop the front plate?
Must be on the back burner?
Happy Motoring...
