The PO had a front mount plate option added, where-as my state doesn't require it. I removed the mounting bracket, and it's ugly. The holes are very obvious. The bumper is in good shape, but plugging hte holes just isn't going to look right. Do I keep the front plate mount, and get a nice front vanity plate, plug it, or what?
I was thinking ahead for you single plate guys. I mounted an aluminum angle under the center area below the top grill. Screwed the OEM plate bracket to it and attached the plate. There are no holes in the front so when anyone only needs a rear plate you remove the bracket and angle.
Bumper plugs sound like the answer, thanks much. Hopefully it will have a minimal look when it's said and done. If it doesn't look good I'll just put a vanity plate on.
The right size bumper plugs, or other push-in fasteners like the ones used on the appearance covers in the engine compartment, when painted body color will look just like the rear parking sensors.
I'd do the plugs. I'm so glad I live in a front tagless state. Amazingly it's not total chaos on our roads without them.
You are lucky so far and hopefully you won't get them. Up here in NY over the last several years more and more LEO's have license plate readers on the back of their cars. Also with laser the plate in the front is the target. So we have to live with it and for those who leave them off they are no longer giving out fix it tickets and the fines are anywhere between $75 to $250. My last 3 cars required me to make plate mounts.
The bumper plugs site lists colors, can anyone tell me what color I need? I think it's indigo blue pearl or kyanite blue pearl, but I'd like to not get it wrong.
On the door jamb at the rear of the driver's side door you will find a label attached by jaguar. ON that label you will find the month and year of manufacture and tow three letter (I think) codes one of the codes will be for the paint color and the other for the interior color. Dr Colorchip and other sites will match up the color code with the proper color. If you can't make that work for you then google Jaguar color codes and look for the year and code that matches your xk and you will be able to find the appropriate color. Good hunting!!
