was it ever an option or any years makes and models? the front end is long and hard to gauge! I always park it then realize I have 1-2 feet left to go and my butt sticks out then.

Mine is a 2009 XKR and the parking assist sensors work great. I am sure they are on all later models. I am not sure if they are considered an optionable item or not. My car had them when delivered.

What year is your car? If I remember correctly my 07 XKR had front sensors, but they only worked in reverse. It also had forward sensing collision avoidance with the smart cruise control that would warn of obstacles while driving. The 11 XK has front sensors and there is a button above the rear view mirror that you can use to activate them while parking while in drive. I use it all the time when pulling up to a curb and it works very well.

Workshop manual for the 4.2 says:
The 5.0 manual says:
You didn't say what year or model yours is, but it appears that front sensors were not standard on every car. I think they became more common as the XK line 'matured'. It may be possible to fit them; the control module is ready for them, but the wiring may not be present.
All vehicles are fitted with rear parking aid sensors. Higher specification vehicles may be fitted with both front and rear sensors.
The parking aid system provides an audible warning to the driver when any obstacles are in the path of the vehicle during a forward (if front sensors fitted) or reversing manoeuvre.

Yeah, had similar thoughts about retrofitting the TPMS and the air-quality sensor to mine. Those and Adaptive Cruise are the only goodies it doesn't have, and I don't think the latter is feasible due to cooling issues - that is apparently the reason you can't get it on the R-S. But it just seems likely to involve a whole lot of hassle that I don't need. Might have a chat when I take it in to my indie specialist for its next service in April; if the guys say it's simple, I'll consider it.

The Control Modules for Rear Parking Aid and for Front/Rear Parking Aid are different for each of seven VIN ranges so it isn't just a matter of reprogramming.

I have an '09 XK Coupe, my first Jag. In reading the Owner's Manual on pages 140-142, and in looking at the Sales Brochure for '09, it looks to me like both the front & rear parking sensors are standard equipment. The Owner's Manual, on page 141, says: "The Parking Aid System automactically switches off above 9 mph and requires (manual) switching on again under 9 mph." The manual on-off switch, which is designated with the letter 'P' is located on the overhead console.

The information contained in this handbook covers all vehicle derivatives and optional equipment. Some of the options will not be fitted to your vehicle unless they formed part of the original vehicle specification. Therefore, some parts of this handbook may not apply to your vehicle .......
We have frequent postings across the model tech section from members asking why a particular feature doesn't appear to work on their vehicle. This is the reason.

The Owner's Manual does address both 'Standard' and 'Optional' features, but the Sales Brochure, on page 23, indicates that both the 'Front Sensors' as well as the 'Rear Sensors' are 'Standard', not 'Optional' on both the XK and the XKR ... at least in 2009 models.
