Hello,
I occasionally have an issue with the touchscreen on my 2008 xk 4.2 convertible: when firing up the engine the screen just freezes with the jaguar logo and would not respond
No radio, no response to touching the screen or pressing the home or power buttons, no rear parking aid - in fact all screen driven commands are frozen
Only fix is to turn off the engine, leave the car and lock it for a few minutes until the whole thing shuts off - then usually works normally again
It happens approximately twice a month.
Has anybody experienced this and is there a known fix ?
Thanks in advance
Nic

A known problem with these electrical demons is the battery drain they experience when parked. Do you have a battery maintainer installed for it? If not, search the XK/R forum for CTEK. In the meantime, try hooking any battery charger you have available to the car for a few hours before you try it again and if you don't get your frozen display, the worn battery/battery maintainer fix may be what you need. Also AGM batteries are a reliable option used by many owners in this forum.

The XK's seem to be very sensitive to tired batteries. My '07 XKR used to do it even though I used a CTEK frequently.
I eventually bought a new AGM battery and nearly six months later have had no issues. Even when 'fully charged' the logo often used to appear for 5 or 6 seconds after I started the engine so I used to put my seat belt on whilst I waited for it to go off in the hope it wouldn't hang. With the new battery I see the logo for a split second then it goes straight to the home screen. No more having to plug the car in when I get home either, just like a 'normal' car should be!

I agree with my fellow members. These are the first indications of a tired battery.
Until you get it swapped out, try this.
1. Be sure to lock the car and keep the fob out of range.
2. Perform a complete system reset by disconnecting the battery...
3. While disconnected, recharge the battery.

And, if you disconnect the battery, here's the full reconfiguration procedure:
1. Connect the battery cables and tighten to 5 Nm. Ground cable must be connected last.
2. Install the battery cover and close the luggage compartment lid.
3. Start the engine and allow to idle until the engine reaches normal operating temperature.
(n.b.: when you first switch on, the display will ask you to press the brake pedal & apply the electronic handbrake, to recalibrate)
4. Switch the engine off.
5. Restart the engine and allow to idle for approximately two minutes (this will allow the ECM to learn the idle values).
6. Apply and hold the brake pedal, select drive and allow the engine to idle for a further two minutes.
7. Drive the vehicle for approximately five miles/eight kilometers of varied driving to enable the ECM to complete its learning strategy.
8. Reset the audio unit and climate control assembly to original customer settings.
9. Reset the door window motors (wind down & hold until there's a click, wind up & hold for another click).
(n.b. store your current seat positions in M1, then adjust & store any other positions you used to have)

I've mentioned a few times in threads (I hope I don't bore anyone) that I had screen freezing and crashing issues that ended up being related to particular files on my USB. It'd get to a song then crap itself, freeze, then reboot. Took the song off and bob's your uncle, never happened since.
