FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT | part number alternative
Hi fellas,
I have a 2007 XK and I am replacing the fuel pump. As per my VIN number, the part number that shows as OEM is C2P11901 but on newer VIN numbers they replaced this part for C2P12142. My question is if the newer (and also over 150$ cheaper) fuel pump C2P12142 would fit my car. Did anyone do this before? It is pretty big labor and I need to be sure about it.
Thank y'all!

Welcome to the forums Galego,
The original pump C2P8285 was superseded by C2P11901 as shown by the rotating arrow symbol in this Parts Catalogue page:
Either of these fit VIN range B02689 to B09083.
From B09084, the correct pump is shown as C2P12142 which, as you say, is considerably cheaper.
JLR website still lists BOTH pumps for sale with a changeover at B09084. If C2P12142 had superseded C2P11901 then I'd expect C2P11901 to be shown as NLA (No Longer Available). The later C2P12142 pump may physically fit but not deliver the correct flow.
Unless someone posts with direct knowledge of having tried this replacment and subsequently run the vehicle successfully, there's a risk you could try the later version and then end up having to buy the earlier one.

Graham,
Thank you so much for your quick and detailed response. At this point, I am pretty decided to go with the VIN indicated C2P11901. However, there is something I can not totally understand, and it's that my VIN ends in B00976, and you mention that "Either of these fit VIN range B02689 to B09083." ??
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.

The phone rang in the middle of writing my reply and I see on re-reading it again now that I wasn't completely clear on the VIN ranges. C2P8285 was fitted from the start of production up to B02689 when it was superseded by C2P11901. This second pump was fitted up to B09083 so any vehicle from the start up to B09083 can use C2P11901 as a replacement. From B09084, the later C2P12142 was fitted.
Apologies for any confusion caused.

A part can be shown in JEPC as superseded for two reasons:
1. change of supplier (the "new" part number is usually only a different suffix)
2. design improvement (has a completely different "new" part number)
Not 100% but that is usually the way JLR list parts changes.
