Hi all.
My car (2007 XKR) is booked into an Indy Jag specialist for a service and a gearbox service in January. Its on 59000 miles now.
I have found a local gearbox specialist who sell the ZF gearbox service kits, as I want to be sure genuine parts are used.
Is this the correct kit for my car and whats the revised case sleeve mean?
As long as the mechanic is in there, you may want to have the rubbers installed between the mechatronics and the main section. They dry out and crack or shrink over the years. When I did mine, I was able to break the square seal in half due to heat hardening.
It's only a few bolts to remove the mecha and maybe 15-20 added minutes. Parts below. Make sure the tech properly torques the mecha back in with the proper pattern. That's on page 4 of the attached installation guide.
Make sure your tech gets the correct square seal -- as in the install guide, there are two slightly different versions.

Good point, if the tech managed to drain 100%, including the torque converter. Typical refresh is about 6-7 L/Qts.
I'd much rather replace all the fluid rather than the typical 70% that ZF assumes in the fluid refresh.
Dropping the mechatronics drains another .5-1 L/Qt, but that's rarely done.
Did you find out how to do it? Never managed to find directions to drain 100%.
AFAIK the only way to remove 100% is to run the engine in gear with the sump cover off. It's not something I would do but I don't think that it would do any harm if the only run for a minute or two.
A guy on one of the BMW boards (also a ZF) "flushed" his tranny by hooking up a bucket of shell Spec 1374.5 spec fluid to the intake port of the transmission cooler loop. Sucked it in, blew out the old stuff into another bucket from the other side of the loop. For me, this was more work than it seemed worth. After all, if ZF reccomends a 70% refresh of new fluid repalcing old, that's probably good enough.
Kind of like the way Jag suggests flushing the steering rack by connecting the appropriate PS reservoir hoses from the rack to containers of Dex11 on the intake and a waste bucket on the outflow. I did this to several of my cars' steering racks very successfully (the BMW's used CHF11, though).
But the zf procedure rarely includes a “complete” fluid change, merely what is in the pan.
Nonetheless I have been known to fluid changes done with a proper fluid exchange machine…. I’m not sure “a bucket” qualifies.
Most of you here probably have seen these resources before, but this is for the newbies.
