Their gas is high priced but they are in the middle of nowhere. Their restrooms are normally clean. I just stopped to eat a sandwich I brought along for the trip.

I filled up in Albuquerque. Cline's Corner is where I turn off Route 66/ I 40 to get home. 400 mile trip today to go to the Doctor. Another 400 mile trip tomorrow to go to another Doctor. Nothing is close in New Mexico

In another thread, moderator Norri who lives in Phoenix mentioned he'd left his F-PACE at LAX when travelling to Europe. Thinking this must be around 1000 miles before checking the map, I replied that the US is often smaller in reality than in my perception. I've spent less than an hour in the country and that was in an airport transit lounge in Bangor, Maine! However, New Mexico is clearly larger than I imagined but my doctor lives across the street which rather skews my idea of reasonable distance to medical expertise.

I hope all goes well for you.

Whenever trips are mentioned on our forums, I always look at the map to see routes and distances. Photos of vehicles I know well in places I'll never see are always fascinating. Shame you didn't mention start and destination but it did encourage me to look at the historic Route 66 and read how it is has changed.

Been on route 66 many times as a kid, traveling with my parents from Chicago to St Louis, and then down into NW Arkansas. It was cool, as I remember all the little towns, and old "one horse gas stations" along the way. (they only had one pump) I was around 9 years old and the interstates weren't completed yet so 66 was it. Now people have pretty much forgotten the beauty of rural America. Unless they live there. 4Lane Interstates are for getting you where you have to go. 2 lanes are for when you don't care where you go.

You captured the essence of the road trip. If you are in a rush/hurry to get somewhere, take the interstate. If you are on a journey of sorts...two lanes all the way.
Back when I would leave town for the coast...I had the option to return to the big easy via the interstate. I chose highway 90 almost always, driving through the rigolets, low marshlands, forgotten towns, questionable industrial/commercial compounds and houses on stilts. It would take me 2 hours where the interstate was only 45 minutes. I looked forward to those drives...top down in the old Sunbeam, tool chest in the trunk. Good times.
