Glove Box HOW TO RESOLVED

White XKR- I saw these little pins, they look like they are made of aluminum (or aluminium if you are a Brit) and they deploy outward to slow the rate of fall of the glove box on opening and also stop it on the horizontal so all things don't fall on the floor? If I spray them with WD-40 I'll be ok possibly? Then I can go back to my J-shifting?

Thanks for the help. I had the same problem on my 07 XK. I think Jag must have hired Rube Goldberg as a consulting engineer when they designed this glove box. I have never seen such gratuitous complexity. With 5 bolts and 3 latching points, it would seem over-engineered until you look at the flimsy little plastic piece that holds the dampening spring. Maybe Jag just outsourced the glove box design to some college interns.

I, too, repaired the damper function on my 2010 xk. A few details that stumped me:
1. the end piece (side of glove box on passenger side) requires a real tug to get off. I'm timid, at least with the car. When I finally yanked it off, the 3 clips came off the end piece and were just dangling in the holes in which they were holding the end piece. I put the 3 clips back on the end piece, and when I fixed the damper, I just hit the end piece in with the palm of my hand for a perfect fit.
2. The glove box has 5 Torx screws, 3 readily visible, and two that are hidden behind the bottom black cover. Pull the 3 clips down, let the bottom cover hand, and you'll see the additional 2 screws.
3. I still couldn't get the glove box out. Turns out, on the side with the lock on the glove box door, there are 3 clips behind; the clips are as in step 1. After a lot of tugging, those came off the glove box and were hanging in their corresponding holes. I placed them back on the back of the glove box before reinstalling. Pushed the glove box near the lock with my palm, and it fit nice and snug.
4. regarding the fix, I followed the TSB as someone mentioned near the beginning of the post.
Hope this helps...took me forever because I was trying to be gentle.

Does anyone know if the 2005 XKR glove boxes can be repaired in the same way? Mine just nose-dived on me today. I do not feel confident I can pry off dashboard end caps and put that back together. I probably will go to the dealer, but hate to at $125 per hour, but do not want, as other threads have stated, my glove box hinges to become ruined to force acquiring a whole new box. I can only grimace at what Jaguar may want for that repair part.

Ok, just did mine today, also thanks to this thread!
Used a small cotter pin, as mentioned above (nothing to work loose and unscrew over time), with a 1/16th inch hole.
Lining up those snap in tabs on the lock side, and getting the box back into place, was a bit of a struggle, but got it done.
Thanks again!

Thanks everyone! My damper-clip snapped this weekend when I had my car out for a drive. Thanks to this thread I fixed it tonight with only a little trouble lining up the holes to screw the glove compartment assembly back into place. Also it was too taught at first so I extended it a bit with a piece of wire. Works great!

Finally got around to doing this yesterday on my 2010. Thanks to all who contributed to this thread. I used the screw method because I didn't read far enough into the thread to see the TSB. The cotter pin would have been slightly easier.
The important thing is it's fixed and the glove box no longer slams down when opened like a 1993 Nissan Sentra.....

Fixed my glove box yesterday! Easy fix.
I was impressed with the size of the bolts holding the glovebox in. The screws that hold the glovebox in my BMW are not nearly so substantial nor so finely machined. The Jag's bolts thread in quite easily and as I said before were quite substantial. Really this is the first thing I have had to do to my Jag, but the build quality, at least of this part, seems to be very good. (Except, of course, the part that broke to make me have to work on it in the first place.)
