Glove box lock

I've had my '07 XK convertible now for about 3 weeks, 35,000 miles on it. When I initially drove it, I went to open the glove compartment and the lock popped out along with the spring, into the floor. I put it back in so it doesn't look so bad. It stays put, without the spring, but needless to say, it won't open. I took it to the dealership today for an oil change and asked them to take a look. WOW....a $3000.00 fix!. Seems they are quoting replacing the entire glove box. I have shopped and can find the glove box for $2,000 and the dealer will install it for $150, but still..... Is there no way just the lock and cylinder can be replaced?
BTW.....I love the car!! Here in South Carolina, it was 70 degrees today. Took the opportunity to cruise a bit with the top down. Nice...

I had the quick drop problem after I 1st got my car. I saw the fix on this form but being it was a CPO car at the time my dealer said they would fix it. It seems that the fix was replace the whole glove box assembly. I laughed but told them to do it as it was N/C. This has been several years ago but since I only open the glove box once a year and it still is like new.
