Thank you Wolfy!

Like I said - fingers crossed!

I have always taken my transmission work (Mercedes and Jeeps) to Frank at B&F transmissions in Van Nuys. He is an old school precision mechanic that specializes in European cars. Reasonable prices and very pleasant I also appreciate a visit with him just as much for his conversation!

Looks like you made a good buy. I would have the gurgles in the A/C checked to make sure your duck bill is not stuck closed. There are several threads dealing with clogged duckbills including symptoms, damage and repairs. Good luck and welcome to the group.

The Jaguar XKR looks great in the photos. Cleaning the XKR up really made a difference. But the look is only cosmetic, and I am sure you want a great running XKR.

My suggestion for consideration.

Since you got the XKR for a great price of $15,000 I would recommend reference the small issues you described above, take the XKR to a Jaguar dealer and have them inspect the car. Have them provide an estimate to get the issues resolved in full working order. Looks like the cost may be minimal and you still have a small amount of cash into the XKR.

Driving away from the Jaguar dealer, XKR fully serviced and repaired will bring many days of enjoyable driving and peace of mind that you have made a great deal.

Otherwise, the color combination is a killer and just simply beautiful!

Thank you Richard,

Great advice! I have always maintained my cars myself - (ex motorcycle mechanic) including all my Mercedes cars and even back to a Daimler Double-Six Vanden Plas that I had back in the UK!

However a quick inspection by someone very familiar with these would be priceless and at least provide peace of mind and the option to fix the urgent issues!

I look forward to being able to get advice on this forum for some of the less critical problems that I am sure I will be encountering!

Thanks again

P

Looks like you got a great deal on that car, only time without major problems will tell if this is a good buy for you or not. Not trying to crap on your enthusiasm, you detailed it very nicely and it looks great!

I am not a big fan of wood interior, however the combination of your wood trim with the interior color leather is simply stunning.

Beautiful car, a total steal for what you paid.

Advice: I had the same interior (dash) color in my 2005 XK. The tan dash will reflect onto your windshield something fierce! SolutionL: wear polarized sunglasses.

Yes, that is a beauty! Shined up real nice. Hope it all works out for you, and please try not to snicker too loudly if you pass one of us one the road, as you know you paid significantly less for your ride than we did!

Gorgeous! And if you need an indie mechanic to scan codes, check out for any problems (like you should probably have a rear wheel if not all four wheels alignment), and are willing to drive to the Valley, I can recommend someone who works on all 3 of my Jags, including both of my XKRs. Congratulations on a stunning car for less than a 5 year old Camry!

Thanks tberg!

I absolutely could use someone in the know in the Valley - I am in Studio City!
I have my guys for Mercedes and general stuff like transmissions. I do a lot of general work myself as I was a motorcycle mechanic at one time.
Please let me know who you wish to recommend :-)

Default Gurgles solved!

UPDATE!

So for about 3 months I have been wrestling with gurgling sound, suction sounds, rattles (like a loose wire or cable) clicks and something that sounds like a loose aluminum heat shield. This occurs mainly when the HVAC is on and only when moving.

Jacked the car up, inspected many times and spent at least 20 miles driving with my head bent over trying to isolate the problem. Tried replacing all the fasteners on the engine compartment shields, tightened all the heat shielding under the car, stripped away trims to inspect, banging and tapping endlessly and blew out the duck bill drain tube several times.

Finally, seemingly unrelated, I topped up the coolant - needing about a pint and everything is solved! Go figure! The car runs silently and perfectly. I would never have suspected this - maybe the gurgling but all those other things??

Glad to hear. Looks fantastic.

I wouldn't be worried about the quality of a repair, more so the resale value. For that reason, I wouldn't buy one unless i planned to keep it forever.
