If your car is factory standard then you don't need to download it because the firmware file is already in one of the directories in SDD
I stand to be corrected but if it already has a custom tune and you want to get that tweaked then SDD isn't the correct tool to use because I don't think there is a way to extract the existing tune using that. It is only used to update the firmware.
I understand how to configure the new module to flash but,
How do I download the file for the existing PCM ?
I'd like to send it in for a tune.
Your complicating things for yourself. If your looking to get a tune I will send you my own equipment , takes less than 10min to read original file, email that over to me, I send it back and you load it the same way. Just getting your original file out of SDD JLR won't make the job easier for the tuner or yourself.

That is exactly how it works. They are stock files on both the PCM and SDD, nothing custom from the factory. If it were to be done through SDD, then the tuner would only need send you a modified SDD file, nothing to download from the PCM.
Most tuners use aftermarket tuning software. It comes down to how well the tuner is able to read and modify all of the necessary tables correctly.
So finally got the engeneering mode enabled . Going through the ccf editor there are so many options that can be changed. Some interesting ones such as shift indicator , performance fan option and many many others. What's confusing to me is for example ABS module and dynamic stability don't even show as enabled or fitted
even though they are on my car...
Not sure .I was hoping others who know would chime in.. I sopose it will make the fan kick on more. I can already modify this manually in a tuning file, but in the engeneering mode looks as there are tons of options...

Beware that many of the options in the CCF are not relevant to the X150, you will also see options for the JLR range in there, some are more obvious than others...

Thanks Jeremy! I kind of figured...
Any idea why abs and dynamic mode don't show as fitted even though it's a standard option?

+1, even when not in E-mode. I haven't used SDD in over a year but there are some recommendations that show up when I run a scan. However, when I check it against TSB, nothing that applies to our cars or my MY so I've avoided some headaches I suspect.
