Assuming one knows how to get into the screen ( programs to JLR to SDD to runtime to software downloads) that asks for the last 6 digits of the VIN.
Type in say rrrrrr and it will start into screens asking for lots of details. At some point it will ask you to select between "normal", "engineering", with training on etc.
Forget off hand when that comes up.
One disadvantage with not accepting your actual last 6 digits of the VIN is that it will ask all sorts of details regarding what you have got or have not got installed in your car!
I tried this on V130 however it does not have anything like the same kind of program files so have not managed it with this version.
I have two dedicated laptops with 5 hard drives between them so lots of combinations XP, W7 and JLR SDD versions.
That SoftwareDownload.htm shortcut has had various successes, depending on who you ask. Some say it works great, but others say it may lock up SDD.
I've tried it NOT connected to my car only. I did fetch my build sheet though, so I could try again later connected, and with all the proper configuration data.
Maybe some day? I'm just a tiny bit spooked to do it.

I have used v130 to program my suspension with success.
However that is NOT in engineering mode.. When I look at the programs installed for V130 they do not have the same "tree" that v 145 has so have not been able to get
engineering mode at all.
The other point is I do not think that V145 works with legacy vehicles when selecting engineering mode. All of this is off-line of course.
Well guys, if you use SDD, you know how easy it can be to screw up your car and brick a module, especially with those cloned (knock off) hardware/software. Imagine the damage you can do in engineering mode:-)
Be careful about bricking modules. That really does not happen in real life. What you have is a module that you can't communicate with.
Many stories of completely dead cars with $10K plus repairs needed when it's just a programming failure and someone with a good understanding of SDD can fix it. Cambo and Brutal have both stated this.
Read Cambo's post's he is truly an expert on SDD and all the interface cables. I have learned a TON from his posts! I now have a fully working SDD. A Chinese clone mangoose and hacked software on a non-approved laptop. I run it on a Win7 64 bit machine (stay away from the whole virtual machine mess!) the wrong version of IE and the wrong version of Adobe. I am hooked to the internet and update SDD when it asks me too.
Running V158 now. Yet many people will tell you this can't/won't work. ABrice was a champ at helping me install the SDD software which can be another battle to get thru!
Knowledge is power! Please heed the large power supply required when using SDD. This is the number one failure all us amateurs have.
I did not understand the importance of this and ran several session with a battery charger/maintainer. This will NOT supply enough DC current.
Shopping EBay I now have a Iota DLS-55 power supply. 13.4 VDC and 55 Amps output with very low DC ripple. This is a serious DC power supply and highly regulated! Too expensive for me new but I found a used one with no plugs or leads on it and had to make my own. Got around $110 in the whole thing.
Still learning but have connected to several cars with no problems and currently I am in the middle of adding some new key transponders on a 2008 XJ8L that only has 1 key. This is a bit tricky as the system wants 2 good keys first. I have run thru the procedure 3 times now all the way up to erasing the existing key and when I get my Tibbe keys cut I will proceed.
Learn the red flags of the SDD system.
1. The battery symbol MUST be green at ALL times.
2. The SDD software is just plain terrible! Not easy to use and I have the factory training manual. You can't just click around randomly and do stuff. I wanted to read the codes but there is no option to read codes UNTIL you specify the symptoms of your problem. It's a lot different than any other software I have used.
3. If not using the approved machine understand what is needed by SDD. You can't have anything power down when operating SDD. This means shut off all energy saving BS. Another small thing is be sure and disable the system from powering down any of your USB ports. That can really screw up a session.
I still am trying find out how to delete old sessions because I have a number of them from just trying out the software so they are junk. I can export or import sessions but not anyway to delete them?

I now have v 130,131, and 145 up and running. I use a genuine cable from Drew Tec. and have two dedicated laptops with several HDDs some with W7 and some with Xp.
Also have a proper battery support unit.
I have only programmed my suspension so far however I plan on doing a transmission set up soon or whenever I get done with the mechanical issues.
Will also look at my VACM just because I am curious as it works just fine. Want to see whether voice can be changed.
Out of interest, what did you actually get for your $100? Some modified files or a code generator for the coded access?
Your post prompted me to finally get round to having a play with something I was give 3 or 4 years ago and it looks like it achieves similar results
I wonder if this is how you remove the speed limiter
Yes that's where speed limiter is adjusted. I wish I knew what else can be modified for
our cars, so many options there..
All I got was a key generator for my Vin. There might be one free on torrent sites a sopose ...
How did you get to that screen and how do I get a password for the coded access portion of SDD v131.08?
I have v131.08 loaded and have donoe lots of stuff with it but I have never seen that screen above before and I do not have a key generator (where can I get one) and want to do this stuff.
Lots of us want to know, and nobody's talking (other than to say 'buy it off the interwebz')
John explained it in post 83. You use letters instead of the VIN digits (in his case he used al R's) and have to know/ select options on your vehicle. Once in, you select engineering mode. That's how he got in on his version(s). Doesn't mean it will work on your version or mine.
If that doesn't work, reach out to Moscow Leeper. I think he sells keys.

Happy Turkey Day to everyone!
The post states "Assuming one knows how to get into the screen ( programs to JLR to SDD to runtime to software downloads) that asks for the last 6 digits of the VIN
Well I dont know how to get into that screen! Where is that Screen? Where do I find it? What runtime? what software download?
Can you give a step by step instead of saying its there in the vaguely described screen!
There is a file in the JLR directory called "SoftwareDownload.xml" and that is the way to open the supposed Engineering Bypass deal. I tried it while NOT connected to my car and you have to correctly answer many configuration questions as per your individual car. Evidently once you get all the way in you can reconfigure the CCF.
The next time I have SDD hooked up I MAY try it.
