Put some miles on the car and the P0128 code popped back up. Funny thing is on my sons LS with the crappy plastic T-stat housing I modified a '60's Ford 195` self contained T-stat to work and have the new Jaguar one he bought for it so that should be a simple 'fix'. Sadly my repair on the expansion tank is leaking so another $160 is going towards the car. Last night I bought a replacement mirror off eBay for $44 so while the money is adding up, it's still much cheaper vs a car payment.

I'm thinking of replacing the outside mirrors with mirrors that have the blind spot warnings. Has anybody tried this yet. I have checked out the outside mounts on XJs, XFs, and F-types The mountings look all the same to me. My thought is to see if I can pickup a pair from a disassembler. Since the current mirrors have electric power, it seems to me it should be fairly simple to make the switch. Thoughts anybody?

The blind spot monitoring system comprises:
LH (left-hand) Blind spot monitoring sensor
RH (right-hand) Blind spot monitoring sensor
LH (left-hand) door mirror
RH (right-hand) door mirror
The system uses two radar modules operating at a frequency of 24 GHz and each combining the radar and electronic module in a single unit. The modules are located behind the rear bumper surface, symmetrically, one on each side of the car behind the rear wheels. They are side facing and inclined rearwards at an angle of 16 degrees, which is dictated by the shape at the rear of the vehicle. Each module is calibrated to detect a vehicle in the driver’s blind spot. Once a valid target is detected the module illuminates an amber warning ‘alert icon’ LED (light emitting diode) in the relevant exterior door mirror. If there is a fault or blockage with the blind spot monitoring system an amber warning indicator dot LED (light emitting diode) is displayed in the exterior mirror and the message ‘blind spot monitoring not available’ or ‘blind spot sensor blocked’ is displayed in the instrument cluster message center.
When the system initiates, it performs a self-check, during which the warning icons in the mirrors illuminate alternately for a short period of time. Each module does a left/right determination check when the ignition is switched on. Each mirror has a different circuit configuration so that the modules can determine which mirror they are connected to. If a module detects the wrong mirror it will go into a fault condition.
The blind spot monitoring modules receive vehicle speed on the medium speed CAN (controller area network) and are inactive until the vehicle reaches 16kph (10mph).
Each Blind Spot Monitor module emits a radar field greater than the blind spot area. The actual blind spot area is calibrated into the module during its manufacture.

Yes, I don't think there's enough room in the housing for anything fancy.
In other news I finally popped the hood and started thinking about draining the coolant and replacing the T-stat. Looked at the expansion tank and decided to research one. seems there are a bunch of different part numbers that bring up a whole string of different prices. The newest version is a C2P25607 which is shared with the F-type. So, found one of them in an auction on eBay for $75.99, about 1/2 the dealer cost. It's bought and paid for. Waiting game begins. Mirror has been marked as shipped but no info yet. It's coming form Reno, the tank from Miami.

So, tackled the T stat a little while ago. Got lazy and didn't want to drain the coolant so I jacked the drivers side up and drained the expansion tank with a little oil pump I have. Tossed the old coolant since it was contaminated.
Ta da, didn't drip a drop when I popped the cover off. I did remove the drivers intake tubing and loosened some brackets to get the wiring out of the way.
Out with the bad... Rubber lip came apart. It's funny that Matt's LS had the same fault. Oddly you can now get a different style T-stat to replace the wonky setup Jaguar uses. That bit of info should help the XK guys.
For me, I installed the Jaguar part from his and it works correctly.
Overall, about an hour job. I also pulled my 'repair' off the expansion tank and noticed that it wasn't broken, merely loose and the sealant cooked off. It's been reinstalled with some Yamabond goop from Yamaha that's a pretty good glue. Heat cycled the car and the coolant level seems fine after being topped off with water.

And finally for this episode I took a whack (literally) at the poor passenger side turn lamp with the headlight restoration kit.

One from after. Hit it with 500, 800, 3000 grit and the foamy with just water for lube. I did touch the gouge below the emblem with 500 grit to see what it was made of and the paint came away pretty easily. Now I just need to find a match for the silver. Eventually I'd like to duplicate these in raw aluminum and do away with the Jaguar emblem. We'll see...
This too about five minutes to sort out. Pretty cool.

Google 'Lincoln ls t stat' and look at the images or 'shopping' section. One style is like ours, a bunch of loose parts. The 2nd type looks like a conventional T-stat with an extra flap for the pressure bypass. I just don't know how the new style installs in the OEM housing. There is an aftermarket housing for the LS's 3.9l Jaguar engine.

The LS's mirrored the Jag's through the years, '03 was a break over from rear throttle body to front throttle body in '04 like the newer XK's. Looking at the T-stats again I noticed that the different ones seem to be for the Ford based V6, not the Jag based V8's. Sorry about that...
In other news today I took the car out to meet my son for lunch at a local Chipotle's. I was parked up front next to a scooter so you could see it from inside. It was interesting to watch pretty much everyone who walked by it look at it. He noticed it and started laughing. There was a flashy 4 door Beemer sitting across the row from it and no one looked at it.

Well, got my new expansion tank and it's for an XK, not an XKR so it only has one nipple on the top cover instead of two for the blower cars. Little disappointed that I got wrought up in the new numbers without paying attention to the application details. Since it was a private seller I'll just list it in the classified's and move on.

So, yesterday my emissions inspection notice shows up in the mail. This morning we pull a CEL for lazy down steam o2's again. I guess it wasn't just the cats but I'm pleased that I did the work since the sound is so much tamer vs. before. I'm going to take it and get the waiver paperwork until I get it sorted out. In other news, the car has been a joy to drive and run to work this week.

So, the car Gods smiled at me. Took the long way home last night after work and the CEL turned itself off. Decided to try emissions and see if it would pass. Car needed fuel so got that, then gave it a $3 wash at the car wash down the road a bit. Then some spirited driving along some back roads to get there and damn it if didn't pass with flying colors. Guy at the station had never seen one before and thought it was a pretty cool car.
