I think I bought this, paid $65 with free shipping on a 'make offer'. Kind of wanted the red needles and the supercharged script is nice. Should be here next week.
In other news, if I don't reset the up limit on the door the windows tend to drop OK, passenger side got reset today and it stuck tonight. PITA and one place the icarsoft could shine by letting me reset the limits.
Overall I like the look without the lights lit. Make any sense? I did find out that the wrong cluster will just chime and not do anything else when plugged into the car. I wanted to see how it looked before charging ahead. I'm going to delve into the cluster and see if I can make the gauge lighting brighter on the spare PCB. I'll post some pics of that part later.
I think I'd like the OEM gauge face with the red needle.
Did you by chance get lasik Ranchero? I did and interior lighting in my car at night bugs me. It's a common side effect of the surgery and you've mentioned lighting before. Just curious.

I see that you didnt fit speedometer needles right. they need to be calibrated. also tachmometer RPM will show false values now.

Marked where it sat when rotated CCW and put it back with the shaft locked CCW. Not much else to be done. 130 mph felt like 130 mph this morning on the way to work.
Gauges look awesome in the dark. Much finer resolution and the red needles look sexy.
Ranch maybe as a future side project you could make a templet of the gauge binnacle and find a set of combination gauges. Something like a speedo that has an oil pressure and oil temp gauge integrated and maybe a tach with a water temp and a volt meter in the unit. Either digital or analog but maybe something doable .
i read this whole thread, from start to finish in 1 day....and i must say i am utterly impressed by your work Ranchero. this cat got a new lease on life and it probably couldnt be happier.

Yes, had it done in '98. Old flip the flap of skin before lazing style. I went from coke bottles to fighter jet pilot vision in 30 minutes and it's lasted almost 20 years. Lighting at night isn't as clear as I'd like but much better with balance and some much thinner glasses.

I don't think this'll work out. I think the stock cluster does much more than just gauges and central display. I think the chassis' brain is in the cluster and a ton of functions get reset when the cluster is pulled. I know my TPMS is NOT happy at the moment. Constant quick fault that will clear itself. Did this the last time I pulled the cluster as well and it eventually sorted itself out. I killed my camera battery last night and will post up pics of the cluster assy. Overall it's pretty clever but also a PITA to work on. I want to play with the LED lighting but realized the headlamp switch just feeds the cluster a resistance value for each function so I need to power the cluster and then find the correct resistance value to trigger the lamps. Can't put the XF one in my car because it doesn't sync to my chassis and will just chirp at me. Not like I could just put 12 vdc onto on pin and the cluster lights would come on. Might power probe the led's themselves, maybe.

I'm so excited to see what comes next!!
Thanks. I post this stuff up because it's a lot of fun to make stuff better and I think many folks feel obligated to pay someone to work on these high tech monstrosities when the reality is they are just machines dressed in a sexy skin. The future is refinement and making the car more how I want it along with the rest of the maintenance repairs. Trans fluid swap and thinking about some flavor of posi-traction is keeping me awake at night.
Spent some quality time with the car and I'm overly happy with the gauges. Well worth the $65 for the XF cluster. The silver face look white most of the time in daylight and the red needles are surrounded by black trim making them look more 'defined'. At night the rings are divided into small increments where the old one was a solid ring and the white needles made a ghost glow on the gauge faces. I didn't add a 2nd layer of tint to the warning LED's and that's my only complaint.
pictures with lights on and motor running in the evening please.
It looks like this, just not so blurry in real life. Probably asking too much out of my old Sony Cyber-shot. The center display isn't as bright either. I assume it's just how the camera sensor detects light.
Your link doesn't come up for me (I think since you are 'making' your own gauges). I have a couple ideas. Execution and style depends on what I can find that will work. Naturally I'll post what I come up with once I do. Think sectioning the coolant temp and oil pressure gauges from a Jag/Ford?Volvo family car and making a pod for them either under the XK cluster pod top or somewhere else like atop the steering column.
Quote from Jesse James' Monster Garage. "It has to look cool and work too". I installed a volt meter in the ammeter position in the stock cluster on my '71 F-350. Hardest part was finding a gauge with the correct sweep and then making a face plate label for it.
Looks terrific. On the 10+ models the GPS has an upcoming turn indicator in the center of the speedo/rpm cluster. If you are considering commercializing it, it would have more appeal with GPS indicator in it. If I remember I will post a photo of it in the next day or two.
