Happyness and a XKR

Happiness and a XKR
A XKR to me is going back to this time. A more polite and glamorous time.
And escaping from this time
I am additionally grateful that none of those folks in that video have any desire to have our cars. Then I think about what they would have given to have our XKR during the times of the Italian Job and Get Carter- he drove a jag in that one.

I had some kids pull up to me in a rest area (late at night) and say politely the tailgate on my SUV was open. What they wanted me to do is get out and check- then it would have been jack on. I knew it was bs because I get a warning light if that was the case.

Hand Wash Only!
Since this thread is titled "Happyness and a XKR" and is about going back in time and movies with Jaguars, here's my nomination for The Best Jaguar Movie Scene Ever! Award - From the Dudley Moore movie "Crazy People":
In the above scene, Dudley Moore, the salesman, is explaining to Paul Reiser, the buyer, that this ad tells Jaguar owners to have their cars polished by hand, preferably by a woman with a soft touch, in order to keep the paint like new.
Compared to a machine buffer, a hand job beats it every time!
Such happiness! Such a .... well, figure it out.

As a side note, I decided to go to an informal parking lot gathering one Saturday night a while back with a few friends that are really into the car scene. I prefer to drive rather than stare, but that's me. Anyway, I ended up on the receiving end from a Hellcat owner about how my XKR only has 510 hp coming from a practically miniature 5.0L engine. I just smiled and assured him that Civics pass me on a daily basis and that I practically have to floor it just to keep up with Priuses, but at the end of the night, I'm not the one that has to drive a Dodge home. And I continued my stroll down the row of nice cars and had a great rest of the evening.

As their values drop, they'll become more accessible to the- tell me if I'm using this word right- punters. I've seen a few for sale already that were wrapped in flat black with 21" or larger wheels. You know the type... Such is the fate of 3rd hand high end cars... initially affordable to most, then cast aside once the repair bills start rolling in. Ranchero50's project is a good example of this, and he has my respect for rescuing it.

In manufacturing and design we always have to think about where a product will end its life, its very important in the original design and target. For instance if you design a merc with bulletproof MBtex leather instead of fabric and focus on the 40+ crowd, that car will conveniently end up in emerging markets where it will provide inspiration to many to someday buy a new Mercedes...and a legacy is born. If we let an unreliable junk, like the 7/6 series stay on the road, it brings down the brand image. See how lucky we are. Lets send all Xks to Utah.
A hellcat is what you get when you want to be attractive to other boys. Time is running out on me, I need to impress myself before others.

We still live in good times- maybe better if you are willing to see it.
Barbara Sinatra passed today. Below is what they bought each other for their wedding gifts. The Jag for him. He loved Jaguars, had one till the very end. But think about this: he never knew an interior as elegant as ours, a car as reliable and an engine this powerful. He was flying on the moon with so much less than we have now. Food for perspective.
