Having some bluetooth phone issues

Several times in the last couple of weeks, my p.o.s. Samsung cellphone has failed to connect with my car. Each time, if I stop the car, lock it, and then start up again, it re-connects. A minor inconvenience easily overcome. The last time, a couple of days ago, when it reconnected,, the Last 10 phone calls button under the digit dial and names tabs is greyed out and disabled, and no matter what I've tried in settings on both my phone and on the touchscreen selections has re-enabled it. Has anyone else had this issue, and if so, were you able to resolve it?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I have Samsung Galaxy S8 and Verizon Wireless. Reecently, Verizon did an OTA system update that made a lot of changes. There were no problems with Bluetooth automatically connecting with my 2013 XJ and staying connected like it always has. But my 2009 XKR wouldn't connect, even though it recognized that phone and said it was docked. Restarting the car didn't help. So I decided to start again with a blank slate.
I deleted my Galaxy S8 from the XKR, turned the engine off and then back on to make sure it was deleted (it was), and then searched on my phone and XKR for a new Bluetooth device. My XKR recognized a new device (my Galaxy S8) and gave me a code to pair it to the car, which I successfully did. All's well now.
Obviously, that system update wreaked havoc with the older Bluetooth version in my XKR. I was surprised that it still works, considering the 10+ year age difference between my 2009 XKR and the system update.

I deleted my phone from the bluetooth list and then had a lot of trouble getting the car to recognize it again. I played with all of the settings on my phone and finally was able to dock it. Now, however, in addition to the disabled Last 10 tab, the names tab is also disabled. (I never use it anyways, but in the rare instances where I might, it would be nice to have everything working. I think Ralph may be right, it's time to replace my dilapidated phone with another. The problem I have with replacing is that they're all so bad! Every feature on my Samsung stops working within a few months for the most part. And when I tried LG a couple of years ago, it was replaced five times within one year by Verizon.

I've tried cRapple, Samsung, LG, Sony, Pixel, OnePlus, HTC and a couple others. The OnePlus was pretty good, but both the HTC and Pixel were great. As you say, Samsungs tend to create problems after use, batteries are dismal, and the UI is terrible. I still have Samsung tablets, but don't use 'em much.
I'll stick with Pixel, thanks.

Had the Nexus 6P, then the Pixel. I don't care for either. Battery usage was brutal on both. Class action suit on Google for the Nexus for the blue screen of death. 3 years in, google stopped allowing firmware updates on the Nexus. Google is already working on Pixel 4. They can't crank them out fast enough and sunset their old ones.
Wife still has the Nexus 6P also and it's constantly crashing now. Well it's 6 years old but she only uses it to txt, talk sometimes and get occasional news updates. Can't update the firmware
I have the Samsung Galaxy S8+ and it's been a steady performer. I know I'm not helping because you have the Galaxy.

Ted - My Galaxy Note 8 has worked well for the 18+ months I've had it. The biggest problem I have had with it is synchronizing it with my computer. It interfaces well with the XKR. Always carry a charger cord because of the already noted poor battery life. By the way, I use Android Auto and have a magnetic phone mount that fits in the CD slot which works well for me. Ralph

My new LG K30 phone was able to pair to my '09 XK Coupe Bluetooth without a problem. My one question: Is the car's system able to receive introductory voice commands? In my other car I am able to make a call with a voice command, as in: "Phone John" and it dials the number without a problem. In my XK, the phone book appears on my touch screen, and I may call a number that way, however it does not accept voice commands. In checking the owners' manual, there does not appear to be such a feature of the car's system. Is this normal, or am I doing it wrong?

I just came back from using my wife's car, the Lincoln MKX, and every feature on my phone was picked up by her car including the History of past calls and names directory. Therefore, I would conclude that there is something in the XKR that is not working properly as opposed to the phone itself. Oh well, I'll start looking at other new ones soon and see if I have the same issue. Thanks for all of the responses.
