Hi guys, I want to upgrade my brakes to a slotted cross-drilled type and pads to Akebonos. Any website that you guys can recommend? Much appreciated
Since prices change all the time, just google the part numbers and pick the lowest current price (don’t forget to check the shipping price, as some places will have a low item price and ream you on shipping).
Brakes are the most important safety system in an automobile. Jaguar chooses vendors carefully, with the primary considerations being safety, performance, durability, and quietness of operation. Appearance is secondary. Among Jaguar's advertising tag lines are "Born to Perform" and "The Art of Performance".
To the best of my knowledge, with the possible exception of SVR models, Jaguar has never used slotted and/or drilled rotors. Why not? Think about it. They don't want customer complaints. The massive 400mm front and 350mm rear rotors included with the optional $5,000 Alcon Performance Brake Package on my 2009 XKR Portfolio are not slotted and/or drilled; they have crescent-shaped grooves. And the calipers are 6-piston front and 4-piston rear, also made by Alcon. Yes, the OEM brake pads produce copious amounts of dust, but they perform perfectly. Cleaning the wheels often is a small price to pay. Here's my front wheel. Note the grooved rotor..
Don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying that you shouldn't buy aftermarket drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic pads if that's the look you want. Just make sure to buy them from a manufacturer with a reputation for quality and read the customer reviews. And don't be surprised if they don't perform any better than OEM Jaguar brakes.
Some Brembo and AP Racing applications do not have a lot of dust. Neither Aston's or Lotus I owned had 1/4 the brake dust of any Jaguar I owned or any friends' regular German car do.
Would be neat to do a brake conversion to a fancy set like on @Stuart S car. Brakes have been generally a low point on Jaguar cars for me. Always look cheap outside of the fancy optional brakes.
And Jaguar has a long tradition of world leading braking. Ever since the C-type won 1st, 2nd and 4th in the 53 Lemans, it was the first to have disc brakes
I believe your rotors were at the time the largest ever fitted.
