Default HELP! Water under carpet (not drain tube, I guess)

Couple of month ago I realize that my passenger carpet is soaking wet. After googling I decide that is possible cause is duckbill, but water was only in rear end of carpet. So, when I was looking for a hole i find one of bottom drain plug and it’s sealant is damaged. I seal it all over, but after rainy drive I find my carpet wet again. So, I have sealed other plugs especially vertical in the area of the fuel tank, but water started to leak in gearbox area. I have seal any other holes and joints of passenger side and... I realize my drivers carpet soaking wet too. I’m tired. Have you any suggestions?

Dunk a bucket of water on the car and see if you can follow the water trail...

I’ve tried many times but no water appeared. Are Duckbill can cause both of carpets soaking wet in rear end?

I already sealed both of these plugs (photo 2) but it seems water also drops beneath this cover (photo 1).

Sounds like bad sealing between bodypanels underneat your car. You don’t state wich year your car is. Could be interessting to know as others also has the problem but not aware of it, and it could be related to a productionseries. Good luck solving the problem and let us know the result

Thanks to all for reply. The car is 2007 XKR VIN:15960. And I guess the cause is really sealant between panels somewhere on gearbox tunnel plus two vertical plugs beyond the seats. Nevertheless, I haven’t fix it yet and don’t know exactly where the leaks is. Hope, you, guys, will not find water under you carpets and my case is special.

If you have water on both side of the tunnel, your absolute best bet is to pull all the carpeting out, vacuum the floor and underneath the carpeting, hang the carpet out in the sun to dry it 100%. Drive the car a few days without the carpet installed, set A/C on Max to see if it’s the drain, water entry only when it rains or if it’s coming from somewhere else. If you go as far as spraying the car down with a hose and spray nozzle, do not spray on it from a horizontal angle, you want to replicate a normal rain shower, not chase water leaks from an uncommon direction such as horizontally. Ask me how I know.

I checked drain tube by empirically way — I take off blower and just poured some water into evaporator housing with medical dropper hose and it was leaked under gearbox. Also i notice water appears after puddle driving after rain. So I decide that leaking goes from bottom side of body. It madness that such car can leaking all over from different spots at once

I think anybody who owns 2007 XK/R and live in rainy conditions should check they carpets, especially beneath of the seats.

Try going through a touchless car wash and get the underbody wash option. Might mimic the effect of puddle splash to see where water comes through.

Slide a lawn sprinkler under the car, move it around while checking for water leaks.

I know, have it rhino lined from underneath. Actually, I don’t know if that’s available over in your country. The water sprinkler idea is a very good one!

Now you gotta do the other side the same way. My philosophy is one and done. A lot of work is taking the proper steps to methodically and throughly complete the job so you don’t have to go back and do it all over again. Taking the carpet out like you did and throughly drying it out so there’s no musty odors and/or mold growing under the permanently damp carpet is 1) a sure fire way to substantially reduce any respiratory system issues and 2) enjoying the car in the long run.

So, think I should write about my case and determine what was happen. Surprisingly I got five spots of water leaking. Some was by my fault, because on our roads, especially near malls entry, is hard speed bumps and XKR clearance is not enough to overcome them without hit the bottom. So, once or twice I hit the bump and, guess, this is was main cause of.

Floor sealant behind the both of seats was cracked. But these drain plugs was leaking too on passenger and driver’s side and how to explain this IDK.

Another spot of leaking — cracked sealant of joint of floor panel and rocker panel (beyond driver’s footrest)

That first photo is too close for me to figure out what I’m looking at. Is the photo upside down?

Directly down at pax footwell??? I see those rusty mounting marks, looks like where the front of the seat was bolted down to me.

Drain plugs on a vertical surface doesn’t make sense to me, so the orientation seems off.
