Default Help with wiring please

Hi guys, I am trying to figure out which wires connect to the reversing lamp of my 2008 model XK-R. I want to hook up a reverse camera, so I need to tap into the feed which activates the reverse light when I select reverse on the shift.

The photos below show the left hand side of the interior of the boot/trunk with the access panel removed. Can anyone identify the colours of the wires which feed the reverse light - positive and ground? Many thanks in advance.

I know I could do some further dismantling to access the actual reverse light bulb and then trace the wires back from there, but I am trying to avoid disturbing things unnecessarily. Thanks again.

The electrical diagram should tell you. I would download a copy before you do any type of electrical work.

Many thanks. That looks like Black and Black/White then if I am reading it properly?

I just checked and I do indeed have a B&W and a Black wire in that bunch. Would I be right in thinking that the Black would be ground and the B&W would be live?

barnsie, I see it differently, but I’m not an expert at reading these schematics. I had expert help doing mine. Perhaps there’s another set of eyes on here. I don’t want to muddy the water.

Hell I will muddy it up, to me it looks like BW is the ground and the OG or Orange/Green would be your positive trigger wire...

Thanks for the input - appreciated. Yes, now you have mentioned it, it looks to me as if OG is the live wire and BW goes to ground. As you can guess, I am not very experienced with car electrics or wiring diagrams .

I can always get an auto electrician to do the wiring for me - just thought if it was straightforward I could save some money...

Well also, you're looking at a wiring diagram for 2010 onward. You have an 08? I dunno if the wiring is different but do yourself a favor and download the manual for your model year, here, free:

find your year and click on the link
