I watched with interest as this is a familiar path. I ultimately went with the R as well, prodded by my son who summed it up quite succinctly with "You'll smile more." An XK is a nice car, but a 510 hp Xk is as my service guy says, a beast. And as a CPO, a quite livable beast. Enjoy it.

Nice. Nice. Nice.

..and I'll add that I am bit jealous as I am about 1 month into a 2008 XKR convertible with a similar color scheme. Budget was not there for a 2010+ for me, but I consider the bump to 510HP to be a great upgrade in 1.5 years for me.

Enjoy that nice cat and post your experiences here... especially that time between 0 and 60.. I believe you are officially in the 4 second club!

Congrats Simon...

Your son's comment is genius. I think I'll have to use smiling more as a justification for all things going forward.

Pretty big, but not as big as the grin I had today when I finally got to open her up on the freeway today (been raining since I brought her home the other day). The passing power is unreal. All that torque really lets you just walk away from other traffic cruising at highway speeds. Crazy fun!

Came here to do some research about getting a 2012+ XK (my dream car), and stumbled onto this forum/thread.

I see a couple around here, amongst the sea of Lexuses and Mercedes SUVs.

Also, congrats to the OP! I'm still on the hunt for one (can't pull the trigger *just* yet though, but I might buy a XK8 in the meantime).

I see you're in UP. I'm not in that part of town much anymore, but I suspect it's similar to here in that BMWs and 911s are everywhere. I'm only two weeks in, but I love, love the car so far and have yet to come across another one. A 911 may handle better, but around here it really doesn't matter and I can appreciate the torque advantage of the XKR much more than the 911's handling. Plus to my eyes, the XKR is as good looking as cars get. I get the sense you're a relatively young guy. Do what you need to and get one before you get bogged down by family and everything else.

I have a 2008 XKR Portfolio coupe. It still has less than 20,000 miles (31,000 Kms) on it. Before buying it, I spoke to 3 owners that had travelled around 100,00 trouble free Kilometres. I spoke to the local Jaguar dealership and several British automotive speciality shops who all told me that the 2007 and later series of XKRs were excellent vehicles with relatively low maintenance costs. The only problem mentioned was two cases of headlight failures that were rather costly to replace. You would love an XKR.

I agree. I had a 2009 XKR Portfolio Edition Convertible with 18,300 miles that I just sold. The XKR performed flawlessly with low maintenence costs, very low. The new owner picked up the XKR over the weekend and drove it 1300 miles to from New Mexico to Chicago without one single issue.

While many think the 5.0L engine is the best of the best due to the larger HP, the 4.2L Supercharged Jaguar engine delivers more power than what you will ever need.

The Jaguar 2007 to 2009 MY XKR is an excellent choice.

..

As a new owner of a 2008 XKR Convertible, I can attest to the value of the 07-09 era. I did lots of homework before buying. I also considered pre-2007 XK's and XKR's. This is my first Jag and the 2010+ were a bit our of my budget. I was able to pick up an 08 with 39K miles for a good deal. While I toy with what car would be an upgrade, the 2010+ is on my list.I can say I do not believe I am missing much with this 08 XKR and am very happy with it. It has a few minor issues that I will have fun correcting as this has been an exercise in education about the brand and car.

Simon Tan,
The car is gorgeous. Enjoy driving it and enjoy its exclusivity. Here in Los Angeles, 911s are a dime a dozen as are all the other competitive models from BMW, Mercedes, etc. The X150 is much rarer, more elegant, but a brawler when asked. I've enjoyed mine both on the street andx at the occasional track day.
Congratulations!

I thought I might have seen you the other day in Plano. I saw a silver convertible a few cars ahead of me but once I got a better look, it was not an R. Still searching
