My only problem is that even with the 8 foot extension, the only outlet I have is almost 20 ft at the front of the garage. The 8 foot extension won't make it. The other option is to get another outlet installed closer which of course I can do if absolutely necessary. Why don't they recommend a conventional chord to the wall outlet from the Ctek charger chord?

If you need to run an extension, I highly recommend a "heavy duty" extension cord...12 gauge. The CTEK 3300 has a 12 gauge cord plug from the unit to the electrical receptacle. You can easy match the 12 gauge with a 25" extension from places like eBay for about $25.00 with free shipping. I would not suggest a cheap 16 or 18 gauge extension. The longer the extension run needed, a heaver cord is needed. The lower the gauge number the thicker the cord. When running electrical extensions I only use the lower gauge extensions. My garage electrical is on a 20 amp circuit while most house/home/condo garages only have 15 amp service. Some electrical components like compressors have a tendency to trip circuit breakers. If you open the door and look at your electric panel, most likely you have 15 amp circuit breaker(s) going to your garage.

Those are the exact chords I already own. The really thick orange chords. Mine goes over 25 feet. I used it in the past for drop lights when working on cars and the early battery chargers. That is what I had in mind to connect to the CTEK as long as the CTEK 2 foot chord can make it out of the Hatch while it is closed. Can it?

 

Does CTEK 3300 have 3 pin or 2 pin connector on 120V plug?

 

It's a 3 pin plug.

 

With the Portfolio edition I don't have a spare tire. The manual talks about doing jumps from the post on the spare tire. I just bought the CTEC 3300 based on above tips and can put the harness right on the battery but is there a jump port on this car?

 

I have a Schumacher trickle battery charger, which maintains at a rate of 2 amps. I checked the instructions and the recommended gauge of the extension cord to be used is 18, with length less than 100 ft. This Schumacher model is attached directly to the side of the battery with a metal clamp. The three prong plug extends just beyond the edge of the trunk's back panel. To engage the charger, I simply plug in the extension cord and then get to work on the list of things my wife has pinned to my forehead.

Hooked up the CTEK to my battery and the XK is in storage until mid March. Pumped the tires up to 42 psi, filled the tank with gas and Stabil. Never stored a car before.

 

LSTFORD.....................There is a positive post for jumpering or charging located behind the close out panel on the left of the trunk area. The negative post is a post located where the spare wheel would be, OR any chassis part that is bare metal will do the same thing.

IF that description of the positive post is too vague.............lay on the ground near the left rear tire area. Look up in the wheel well area and you'll see a large electrical cable going to a stud on the bottom of the trunk area. It has a rubber boot on it at the attachment point. That cable leads to the batterys positive post. The area above that cable, on the inside of the trunk, is where the positive stud is for jumpering or charging.

When I said "positive post" in the above I don't mean it's the positive post of the battery, just where your positive cable would attach if you were jump starting the car. Negative can be on any bare chassis point, although there is one located in the spare wheel well area.

Sounds like your orange extension cord will work.

I would suggest the CTEK 8' comfort extension. The cord that has the terminal battery leads is too short coming from the battery to get out of the trunk. I guarantee you will want the extra length that the extension provides. You will want to run the cord from the battery leads under the cover of spare tire to hide the cord. This is when the extension really comes in handy.

Hope this helps. It is a very small expense in order to have a nice neat connection in the trunk. After seeing and reading your posts, I know you will want a neat, unobstructive cord connection.

Richzak. You are right as rain as far as my demanding neatness. I have ordered the CTEK last week and should be getting it this week. Looks like I will need to purchase the comfort extension that can slip out of the trunk while the trunk is closed all the way. Do you happen to have that link? I guess it wasn't available through the vendor that I purchase the CTEK from on Amazon. Thanks.

This is exactly what I have, I cut a small circle in the rear boot lining and pulled the end of the connector through that, then put in a rubber hole grommet and it looks very professional and so easy that my wife connects and disconnects it for me if I have to go away at very short notice. Cost about $10 for both items.

 

Tourputters, a pic would be appreciated. I've been contemplating the same thing, but wondering how to stabilize the plug, rather than having it just hang out the hole.

By the way, your car is drop dead gorgeous.

Why did you have to cut a hole in the rear trunk (boot) lining?

I didn't cut the spare wheel cover and simply ran the lead with the quick disconnect plug (after I connected the + and - remote charge terminals) up from under the rear of the spare wheel cover (the edge closest to the bumper). When I reinstalled the spare wheel cover I held the lead out of the spare wheel well so that lead would be on top of the cover. Less than six inches of that lead is on top of the cover and I tuck it away when not in use so it is barely visible and not in the way of anything.

I tried to explain this as clear as I could, but if it wasn't clear here's a picture of the lead with the quick disconnect plug coming out of the spare tire well and secured by the spare wheel cover; it is connected to the separate lead that goes to the charger. The little silver mark in the center is where the two leads connect:

The trunk lid completely closes over the wire with no problems.
