How do I connect my phone?

I have just picked up my 2007 XK and am very very happy. One thing I am trying to do but cannot manage is to connect my phone (iPhone 6) via bluetooth.
The car does not have its original owners manual (dealer is ordering a new one) so I am using the online manual on the Jaguar site. The problem is that the menus shown in the online manual do not match what is on the car. In the manual the Phone option has 5 choices, including Register. When I press the phone option in the car there are only 3 choices, none of them Register, and a message that there is no phone connected and would I like to search for a new phone. There is a button labelled Yes, I assume to search for a phone, but pressing this does nothing. Eventually the menu times out and it goes back to the main menu.
Is there something not right with my car? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I made the mistake of registering an Android phone on my car briefly to see if it had the garbled phone book issue, which it did, and it then took quite a few attempts to get my old iPhone 4S reregistered.
All I can suggest is make sure you are also in the Bluetooth discovery screen on the phone whilst you are trying to register it and also in the manual I attached earlier it said to disable the screen timeout.

When trying to pair I am in the Bluetooth discovery screen on my phone and the car system does not appear int the list of devices.
I will disable the screen timeout as suggested to see if that makes a difference.
Why I don't understand is why the menu options in my car are different to what is in the handbook.

OK, I got sick of doing the temporary fix of unplugging the bluetooth unit to reset it. It did work to fix my problem but would only keep the unit working for a few days. I managed to find a replacement on eBay, of all places, in the UK and ordered it. I installed it a few days ago and have had no trouble since. The phone (iPhone 6) connects immediately and call quality is perfect.
Now only one more thing to do on the car and it will be perfect. The antenna is permanently stuck at half mast. A replacement arrived today. That should keep me busy on Saturday.
