Default How do I get more burble and some pops?

I pulled fuse 19, but I want more. Do I replace one of the TWO center mufflers with an X pipe? Do I remove both of them? Do I remove that big muffler under the trunk? Without buying a whole new Mina exhaust system, how do I get more burble and an occasional pop?

The two center resonators are on one section that is easily removable. Have the entire section replaced with new pipe with a good X-pipe and have it still connect normally at both ends. Keep the original center section for sale later or if you decide to change it back (you won't, ever).
Having a shop do this easy job is somewhere between $200 and $400, depending upon parts used. Makes a grand difference!
Oh, and this would need to be done regardless if you decide later to get any kind of power tune.

Replacing the two centre mufflers with a genuine XKR-S X pipe made surprisingly little difference on my 10 XKR. It changed the exhaust note and made it slightly louder but no where near as loud as I expected. As Cee Jay said though, you will need to do that to maximise power from a tune.

My car burbles quite a bit now and will backfire on the overrun but that is built in to the tune.

i guess i can't speak to the XKR which could be very different, but if it's not and you want a lot of burble, and a lot of crackle-and-pop afterfire, with the occasional gunshot afterfire, just remove the entire rear exhaust assembly.

as has already been discussed elsewhere this will rob you of power maybe (theoretically it actually gives you a little more power in many scenarios), low-end torque definitely. i barely notice it, for one the XK has less of both to begin with, and secondarily i use the paddles in sport mode 100% of the time and i realized i'm just always in 2nd gear at the least. the only time i use 1st is when crawling into my garage. i've recently tested some pulls using 1st and i do think i feel less torque there than what it used to be but i really can't be sure.

there will be thunderous drone to deal with. i'll make a whole thread on that another time.

my car is on the stock software and i've driven it as seen here for a few months. it does not throw any codes.

also my garage floor hates me.

I'm having a tough time finding this prefabricated mid section for sale anywhere.

Is an exhaust shop the only option these days??

You can get one from Jaguar!!!!
OEM cost is something like $8,500.

Yeah I tried to get the PN but it didn't come with a pic. If its the same one, then SNG wanted like $1,500 for it. PN C2P22073??

Either way, NOT. A. CHANCE. 8500 is insane.

Also the OEM XKR-S center section won't fit on a 4.2 XKR, correct?

Personally I want a harmonious tone not redneck loud racket out of an exhaust! Pops and crackle on the overrun is nice but you don't want to over do it. You'll be grouped with the Hyundai, VW GTI and Audi crowd!

I've no backbox and in normal driving descending a gradient at say 40 and relying on engine braking (for want of a better word) is pops and crackles nicely.

In Sport and Dynamic (best saved for our Summer months) it's even more pronounced, I love it

That said I think a tune would possibly improve things in D but it may be too much on the fiercer modes or using when using the paddles.

I will definitely do this once I check and verify for 'no leaks'. It works perfect in my old Mustang. Minimal system pressure is the part I like best.

Which tune are you running out of curiosity?

It was supplied by forum member Cambo, and he is based in Australia.

Their website doesn't seem to be responding at the moment but he regularly posts on his Facebook page:

tried to include some high-gear low-rpm cruising to encourage it to drone. the phone doesn't quite do justice for the burbles or for the awful drone, but you get the idea.

Sam (the OP) hasn't been back yet, so no word on anything as far as the intent of this thread.

X pipe done and booked in with Cambo to do a tune later this week.

Nice roar at higher RPM and subdue at normal driving RPM. No drone or booming noise (which was my main concern) at highway speeds. This is with fuse 19 removed.
Slight pops and crackles or two on the overrun. Its a mature and mellow tone. The sound is not excessive and artificial sounding like the Audi and Hyundai with the back box removed or sounding like a Mustang. Its a unique Jag sound.

My microSD card failed, so I lost all the photos that I look of the installation. Here is a quick snap.

Got the stainless steel x-pipe from Cambo.

Can't wait for the Cambo tune to free up the extra horses and more importantly more useable torque for real world driving.

I just got mine in yesterday. Can't believe it got here from UK in 1 week! Gunna wait till all the salt is no longer on the roads to install.

What kind of coating can I apply to stainless steal to make it stay nice and clean? Polish? Ceramic?

Anything added to the surface will burn. Maybe crawl underneath and use ultrafine steel wool on them every so often.
