How do you enjoy your XK without needing to speed
#81
Let it run with rules
pedal down 3 to 4 seconds enough to show what it will do. Never speed at night. Let some other speeder go first to clear the way. Never speed unless it has a real benefit. Not racing a fixed wrx, tesla, or other specialty vehicles you already know the result. I live on a curvy road with some very fast cars living up the hill. Things can get out of hand very quickly. I was stopped for going 5 over to tell me that my car was targeted and would be ticked to the fullest extent of the law if I was ever caught. I thought that was illegal. oh well told him it was my mechanic probably. He wasn't buying. They haven't identified the jaguar yet. It was my 400hp cobalt that ran mid 11s. no tickets yet. probably lucky it burn't up in a shop fire.

You are right. should have added I use to speed everywhere Now I have matured and don't speed at will. No more taking risks by running wild. Speed with minimal exposure and because the car is so cool don't need to lower my self to racing anything that moves. So still need to dabble but no full tilt speed. Probably not in the no speed heading but just over the line.

I haven't been pulled over in a long time, knock on wood now that driving a Jag vs. Accord (which must blend into the landscape as I've passed cops at 30 miles per hour over the limit on occasion).
But when I drove an Eclipse GS (and probably my age, and the fact that I was a step 21 for many tickets in NY running film dailies for a movie from western MA to Manhattan), it was never a conversation. Just handed them my license and registration. One day I asked why I never catch a break and he said I come up on the computer for the last 10 years as a habitual speeder.... so yeah? How about start giving me a break so I DON'T show up on the puter. duh

I took a photo of my dash saying average speed 33 mph (last drive I guess down to the gas station and back?) but thought it was funny enough to send to my father over Facebook. He said, "I hope that's not true with that car." LOL

I probably have always averaged 1-3 tickets per year. Usually stupid things like the 45 in a 30 type stuff. They rarely let me go. The seatbelt infraction is about the most kindness they ever show me.
I took a personality test once in a management class I was taking. The teacher pulled mine from the stack, and asked if I had a red car. I said yes (which is funny, because I really don't love red cars, but I had one then, and have one now). He then asked if I got a lot of speeding tickets. I said yes. After that, I resigned myself that getting tickets was just part of my personality.
With the Jag it is easy to be going faster than you think you are going if you are not paying attention.

This is just me getting excited that the weather is starting to get warmer...slowly, after a f'ing sucky long cold winter. Should be taking the car out of storage soon.
Question:
Paddle shifters. When in Sport mode, you're full standard.
When not in S mode, using the shifters is still OK and just manually shifts when you choose, right?
I learned and grew up on a standard so it's hard for me to picture...
you can't stall it out going too slow in a high gear, can you?
Can you hurt the motor using the shifters in regular drive mode?
Not having control of a clutch just freaks me out to touch them. But would like to try to hear a downshift purr sometimes. Thanks!

Paddle shifters are there to be used. I use mine for down shifting fairly often. You can use them in D or S, but know that in S or D they will hold the gear until you manually shift up or down. Hold the up paddle for a few seconds and the tranny will automatically go into D no matter the gear you were in.

Mostly, I stick just below the "10% + 2 MPH" that is the usual trigger point for interest from UK cops - so, in a 60 zone, below 68. Except on motorways, where I set the cruise to 85, and going past speed cameras, where I drop closer to the limit. In all cases, I take my speed from the TomTom, which is more accurate.
Of course, if you have the need for speed, you want an autobahn:

Note: When the transmission is set to
permanent manual mode (i.e. using the
paddles to change gear while in Sport mode)
and Dynamic mode is selected, transmission
up-shifts are fully controlled by the driver. This
means that the transmission will not change up
a gear automatically, even when the vehicle's
rev limit is reached.
This is in D:
Shift assist: The transmission will
automatically up-shift at the engine speed
redline in Jaguar Sequential Shift mode, as if
commanded manually.

What's and XKR "75?"
Edit: Found it: https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-re...5-2010-review/
Hope they don't have deer, squirrel, skunks, possum, etc. in Germany near the autobon. Could get messy, fast.

Here's how the 4.2L XKR active exhaust works:
Remove fuse 19 to keep the valves open all the time. It's awesome going under an overpass, through a tunnel, in an underground parking lot, or other enclosed spaces. No need to speed!
