I'm not talking about being charged more money to repair a car brand than another. I say that it is easier to repair a Dodge Challenger Hellcat than a Jaguar XKR because the cars I repair them personally and the space and location of motor peripherals is much less tight and with less things to disassemble to access other elements in the Dodge that in the Jaguar.
Obviously if you take them to repair to a workshop the hours of work for the same repair are diminished in the Dodge.
But I like having the Jaguar better 😂😂😂

Doubly so it seems: You are entirely accurate on the 'flashy' aspect. Understated elegance, simplicity and sophistication is what perks my attention.

i see what you saying then and you are very right about that part. All the parts are compact to the motor and you have to take a bunch of stuff loose in order to reach what needs to be fixed

Old fashioned? I see the Continental GT as a sort of 'grown up' XKR...

Each to their own I guess.

I've put offers in on a few CGTs and they actually feel more new money to me and younger. The buyers of CGTs near me tend to be younger than XKR owners, then again I'm 32 and female so I'm definitely an outlier. Stuff like the Azure, Brooklands Coupe and Mulsanne are more the old stuffy image. That said, my former boss bought a Brooklands Coupe new and it legit is a blast.

Agreed. Save the vitriol for the politics forum. Those comments are tolerated more in that thread and ARE NOT RECEIVED WELL HERE. It isn't welcome and certainly not warranted. Play nice please.

Wtf? I own 3 Jaguars, all R models, and i don't know how they don't count as sporty looks. I'm a huge fan of the brand too, having been an owner a decade so far.

I honestly don't know what set you off. I like luxury GT cars, and sporting looks are a big deal to me. I don't get it. Good luck and have a great day!

Dude... WTF!
This is a Jaguar forum where we talk about Jags and other auto's in general.
And by the way Bently GT's ROCK.
Oh and since you seem to think it's important I have 11 Jags in my stable so get another job and try to keep up!
Geeeeeze.

It hasn't been released yet, but this new Alfa Romeo looks promising.

CGTs are pretty rare in the UK - they are very expensive when new of course, but they can be had for very reasonable prices on the used market. The W12 engine is lovely. I suspect that most people are put off by the fear of bery high running and maintenance costs. Same could be said to some extent of the XKR, which are also rare here but maybe for different reasons. In the USA you guys have had big V8s for ever and nobody is scared to own one - in the UK the big V8 has always been very rare, with small 1 - 2 litre 4 pots being the norm, so again people are a little scared of the idea of a 5 litre V8.

Personally, I take the view that I am driving an £80,000 car that cost me a fifth of that so I have plenty in reserve for maintenance, and most of the depreciation has already gone. Since my car looks, feels and drives like new, I seem to have the best of all worlds!

That's an awful lot of assumptions, pretty much all incorrect The Continental GT I was looking at has a W12 6 litre engine, 567 bhp and a 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds. That is more in every parameter than my XKR. But I don't know why you are getting so excited and telling me it looks like I "despise sports cars "(especially as the XKR isn't even a sports car - it;s a GT). I was just giving my opinion. I love my XKR but the topic is "what would you move on to next". I'd maybe move onto a Bentley Continental GT - you perhaps wouldn't. That seems fine and dandy to me - each to their own (which I also said).

It'd be fun dragging away from the lights against an XKR, in the "sluggish" CGT and leaving the Jag behind! Wow - imagine that! The XKR is darn fast as it is!

I never said they look better. I said the Continental GT looks more nouveau riche, and that the more staid examples of the mark are more to my personal taste for that brand. I like the CGT enough to buy one, I was commenting that a lot of buyers seem to be about impressing others than about the drive, which really is enjoyable in them!

As far as other things in your post, I just don't know. $5k a month? 13k debt on an XKR? I didn't leave out what Jaguars I own, it's in my signature on every post. I'm also on a model specific board on a Jaguar forum, it'd be weird if I didn't own or at least find the model of this board interesting... Oddly, one of the things I like about my XKR is that at the gas station I get the rare comment, but mostly am left alone. On an infrequent basis, I drive a buddies Diablo VT after doing work on it. You get swarmed at gas stations and I legit find that uncomfortable enough that when I'd be driving it, I'd get gas at odd hours and not busy stations just to be left alone. One thing is that there's always someone else to one up you, don't worry about what other people have or how they perceive your stuff. It's not important.

I like the fact that English luxury is less in your face than italian luxury and not as cold as german luxury. I like that it can be exuding class but still be understated. This feeling also applies to english GT and sports cars; they can be very aggressive but in a classy way that many cars can't seem to pull off.

Gosh, you are very angry, just because someone holds a different opinion to your own. I have to say that, thankfully, you are not typical of the many Jaguar owners I have met, in life and on the forums. Because someone likes another marque doesn't mean that they hate Jaguars. What an odd thing to believe.

The entire point of this thread is that the members discuss cars *other than* their XKR!

Honestly, V8s don't really scare people in the USA since they have probably owned some sort of Ford/Chrysler/GM V8 at one point. Most USA V8s tend to be very stout and other than fuel consumption, are rugged and easy to live with. I've looked at CGTs used since you can pick up very nice daily useable mid 2000s examples for 30-35k. I do all my own work, and have experience working on complex VAG cars (have actually owned an A8L W12 which is somewhat related to the Bentley). Here people are afraid of the repair costs. A lot of people do the champagne taste and beer budget, and are shocked when a 150k$ car when new does not get cheaper to maintain and repair with time. Oddly I feel the XKR really is VERY cheap to maintain and repair in that parts seem exceptionally reasonable considering it's new MSRP. Again, doing all my own work means that labor is not factored in as far as a financial cost.

Definitely agree on feeling like you've gotten the best of both worlds on the used XKR!

We seem to agree on pretty much everything so far! But the thing is, if/when we don't agree, I am sure that we will both remain polite and friendly with each other. After all, we are not all the same, and we do not all like or want the same things in life. The ability to tolerate and respect the different views of others is, in my own view, one of the most important things we can have in life.

You are, of course, totally right about the different attitudes to V8s over in the States and over here in the UK. We are just not used to them like you guys are, and the fear of the unknown is probably the greatest fear of all. Huge kudos to you for doing all your own maintenance work! I can just about check my oil but thankfully I am blessed with three Jaguar specialist garages within easy driving distance of my home. I have owned several Jaguars over my life - a V12 XJ-S, a 3.6 XJS, 4 different XJ6 variants and now the wonderful XK-R which I saw in a members' enclosure at a show and immediately fell in love with and knew I had to have one. Although the title of this thread asks what we would move on to, TBH I don't want to move on from my XK-R. I also have a 2.5 AWD X-Type as my daily car and I love that too, in a different way.

It is a pleasure to type to you!

I couldn't agree with this more! For me anyway, you've completely defined the XK.

I was going to start the day by writing a ‘Thank you Tatty’ for starting this entertaining thread.
Then it turned down the road of poor taste.

Well, it was fun while it lasted. The weather is warming up here today so I’m going to the garage to caress my xkr and ponder which stable mate she needs.

According to my 16 year old daughter, we need a McLaren such that we demonstrate our support for Lando.

Let's keep the discussion civil or face a vacation from the forums.
