How To -- install NAV update discs
My '08 XKR has been getting a pretty good going over in the 3 weeks I've had it, and the next "foreign" project is for the NAV system to get updated maps. Per threads from guys that know, I ordered a Volvo DVD set (disc A and disc B) and am ready to install it. Since I've been known to screw up mixing mud, maybe there's a trick or process I should know about before inserting $200 worth of discs and blowing up the home's washing machine or something.
Can somebody give me what goes next after taking the discs out of the wrapper? Does disc A go into the receiver in the trunk? Is the car turned ON or position 1, or ??? Thanks in advance, guys.

Okay, insert disc into the changer in the trunk, right? Reason I ask is that a Toyota I have had two slots; one for NAV and one for songs. Inserting the NAV disc into the song slot jammed the whole system, hence my interest in getting it right the first time.
If I do the trunk changer, with car running, obviously, and if there are prompts that show up on the screen, we're good to go, right? Can we assume that prompts will tell us when Disc A is finished and it's time for Disc B?
Finally, is there any value to these discs after I've loaded them...or have they been wiped after I used them?

One of the discs, probably the second, will stay in the drive when you’re done, as it will contain the map data for the nav system.
The Jag disc set of 2 discs is divided into eastern and western states, but I think Volvo put the entire country on just one disc (could be wrong, have the Volvo set, just never got around to loading them, I like the British chick too much).

Did the same with European updates (4 disk set for a mere 40 Euros). Just replaced the appropriate disk in the trunk, nothing else needed. Works perfectly.
Good look - and no need to worry.
And, btw, congrats to your “new” baby, enjoy riding one of the most beautiful cars ever built that are still accessible.

I'll load the new NAV this morning while the car is getting a 4-wheel alignment, making it less than a month for everything that needed fixing having been done. So far, these are my impressions of the purchase (2008 XKR coupe, 92K miles)
The cost of the car was 1/3 the cost of the similar 911 that I sold, same year, with 50 more HP, much nicer interior, and a smoother ride.
RH headlight got repaired, which eliminated that pesky dashboard light
Windshield chip got filled
Clay bar and ceramic coating onto pure black paint that has virtually no flaws, despite the miles
Rear suspension and rear brakes replaced (NOTE: cost of parts for the Jag was silly cheap compared to a Maserati GT that I also considered)
I was able to do the repairs DIY, which is a testament to this forum's members that care enough to provide guidance, and to Jag's simple mechanics (compared to others)
Our garage now has her XJL SC and my XKR SC, so we're very happy to be stewards of these great cars.

This Volvo set included Disc A which is a software update that takes 15 minutes to load. After that, removed A and inserted B, closed everything up and Disc B is the mapping. The Volvo version is everything North America, from the Rio Grande to the North Pole. USA's 50 (including Hawaii) and Canada

I wonder if it was updating the firmware when you took the new disc out. What messages or errors are you seeing?
