Default How much Ford DNA is in our XK's?

How much is shared with other Ford subsidies of the time?

I see the NAV was shared with Volvo...

do you mean strictly parts that appeared in ford models as well? or do you mean design and engineering influence?

I love hearing about sharing of part bins but would also love to hear design opinions.

Front upper control arms are Ford. Thanks go to Forum member jahummer for identifying this cost savings. Some plastic fasteners are Ford parts.

There are a ton of FORD marked parts. Just peruse everything, you will find probably fifty easily-found FORD logos on a lot of parts without even trying.

ok. i ask because i think it's a common legend that ford told jaguar "how to do absolutely everything right" during the 1990s when (it seems) in reality they pretty much just improved some reliability stuff for the XF and moved on. the X100 and X150 were pretty much a ground-up reboot entirely within jaguar as i understand it. i've only recently begun to be disabused of this story myself.

I let out a big sigh when I see FoMoCo stamped on a part.
Then I go watch the movie Ford V Ferrari and all is good.

As Ford owned Jaguar and Volvo and Mazda and Aston Martin, and later Land Rover it’s no surprise the majority of parts are Ford sourced or in some way engineered by Ford. It’s good news for the second hand owners and DIYers as that means many parts may be sourced elsewhere for less than JLR prices.

Also don’t forget the Callum brothers worked for all five Marques which is why so many models across those brands share similar designs, lines and shapes.

Not my understanding. A few friends have X100s. X150 are so much better designed, has fewer faults etc. Thanks to Ford. Jaguar had many strenghts, design quality and production quality was where Ford made a difference...

Yes, after Ford purchased Jaguar in 1989, they provided the money and expertise needed to grow and improve. But the X100 was very much a Ford product, replacing the XJS.

Hmm, something I wonder.

Ford seemed to use Aston to develop aluminum production for very low production high cost cars.(DB9)
Then after doing the Aston Jaguar was used to deliver the same thing, but figure out how to do it cheaper(The X150).
Then after that, Ford came out with their Aluminum F150.

If I had to hazard, Ford wanted Jaguar/Aston so they could fund new technolegies through lower production brands.
Mission accomplished, they dumped them.

During the period, I would say that Jaguar technical development might have influenced Ford more than Ford influenced Jaguar.
However, I would also say this happened with the funding and direction of Ford.

But I don't know, these are just guesses.
I'd like to think my X150 is in the heritage of the new F150 pickup.

Actually Jaguar’s X350 was the first all aluminium weldless body in 2002. It was their plan all future Jaguars and Land Rovers would be manufactured this way. But I believe only the X350, X150 and néw Range Rovers were built this way.

I've said this before but it would benefit all of us if we develop a comprehensive tread of all Ford ( or other brand's ) parts that interchange with the XK8.
I believe the XK8 transmission is the same as the Lincoln LS transmission ; I have been told that upper control arms are Ford but I do not know from what Ford model.
Jaguar parts are becoming harder to find while thier costs continue to group while Ford parts are relatively easy to find and always cost less.

+1 on your recommendation for a parts interchange sticky. But if you intended to post your comments in the XK8 (X100) Forum, you didn't. This is the X150 Forum, for the final version aluminum-bodied XK/XKR models from 2007 to 2015. The X100 Forum is here: Jaguar X100 Forums for XK8 Models

X150 upper control arms are Ford. See Post #5, above, and open the link for the part numbers.

From what I understand Ford bought a few companies, Jaguar being one of them. By buying companies Ford also acquires their technology, so Volvo apparently were way ahead of everyone else with aluminum construction .

Apparently Ford never made any money on owning Jaguar, they also claim that the factory was one of the worst they had ever seen , which is interesting as many believe the Ford era Jags were some of the best ever built.

As far as Ford parts the glaringly obvious sits right in front of you......go sit in a 2007 era Mustang......and look at the steering wheel, some of the switches look surprisingly similar as well.

Ive often wondered about the engines as well, 4.2 V8, then a 5,0 V8 across both models......anyone know the answer to that one ?

See post #9…many of these makes and models had the same designer so it’s no coincidence.

Right, they’ve been used in Fords, Jags and Land Rovers and same for the turbo 4 cylinder.

👍
Found this keyless entry antenna mounted on the battery hold down yesterday. Google search crossed to use on the Ford Mondeo (Contour here in the US) but certainly other models as well.
