I scare Jaguar chicks
Since I don't know where else to say this; New Thread.
Well, I FINALLY saw another XK that isn't forum-related while I was in my F150. I was leaving a Smith's Market when a dark blue convertible 2012+ XK pulled in. Course I whipped around and parked, then walked up towards the then-parked car. The woman driving it glanced quickly at me then looked down and didn't move. When I rapped on the cart corral next to the car she looked at me again and lowered the window about two inches.
She was about 40 or so, freshly foofed blond hair and generally a well-kept lady. I stated I had a 2010, and asked her what hers was, 2012 or newer, and she sorta-politely said "it's a fifteen"..... and then put the window back up. She never shut the car down either.
I'm certain she thought to herself "Yes, SURE you have an XK."
Oh well, it was pretty and very clean.
As was the car.
Probably never see it again.

Funny as 2 days ago as I was coming home from a round of golf a 2012+ XKR pulled out in front of me. I was following it and it had Fl. plates. We went around a corner and I blew the horn. He pulled over and I pulled along side. We had a nice little chat and both expressed our like of the cars. He had a gray convert. Nice chap and off we went on our different ways.

They enjoy the conversation the cars bring.
The only time I ever find someone talking about my car to be awkward is when they say they wish they could afford it, then step into a car that they likely paid more for than what I did for mine.
It is just awkward when that happens.

XK owners are not that social. I will say it- its the one thing I dislike about our cars.
I must have 20 XK owners in my town that I have run into and not one said hello, nor are they on this forum. Even raced an XKR on my street
Best was when me and the wife went for a drive during something the equivalent of the Derby/ Ascot and traffic was very congested, so we knew this park with great winding roads and we knew we would be the only ones there- so we jump on to it- so does the XKR covt that is in my rear view mirror- I see the other couple (slightly older) keeping up with us and we are the only ones in this park. So I pull over into a parking space thinking these guys will do the same and share a couple of words on how ironic it was that we both decided to go off the beaten path- they went right by both of us waving and never even looked our way.
Now get this, I cant tell you how many affluent top brass of massive companies have gone out of their way to strike up a conversation when I am in my Toyota Landcruiser. I am invited to a party this weekend on a ranch where we met due to the FJ40 and he requested I bring it to be the background to the live band. (BTW I have never been on a toyota forum)
Ceejay's situation is understandably like a Craigslist rapist trying to strike up a convo before he follows you home in his truck.

Some people are not "Car People". (*gasp*)
They drive a car because it looks nice and feels nice and gets them where they want to go. My wife and daughter are like that. They could not care less about what the car is as long as it gets them to where they are going. As such, I doubt they would want to have a conversation with a complete stranger about their car.
This lady is probably the same. She got a nice car because it was a pretty color of blue and very comfortable. Oh, and she heard that Jaguars were nice cars. Or maybe her husband got it for her. Either way, she probably has no idea about the car, whether it is rare, how many horsepower it has, or anything else about it other than it got her to the store. So she likely has no desire to talk to anyone about it.
Though I find it hard to believe she didn't just want to talk to Cee Jay for the fun of it.

I have the strangest story of all. We have an old LR3 and an Alfa MiTo. The dealer where we bought the MiTo also has ferrari, lambo's, maserati , Aston Martin etc etc. So my son and I love to go there to have a look as
always there is a new -to us- car with yaw dropping specs. Its a miracle in its own right how he sources them. Anyway, before I bought the F-Type I talked a lot with the sales people about running costs of the supercars
they sell. They said it wasn't so terrebly costly all together as the general public thought. So I tried a Ghibli [ stunning car btw], an XK8 and a rather old Ferrari, all in the price range of a new F-Type...
So when I finally got the F-Type, I thought these people are genuine car lovers, I will drive by and show them... ... they were suddenly not as friendly as before. And they don't invite me anymore for there social events.
Why should that be...

Not all that long ago I was quite the lady's man. I think in this particular situation could have changed quite a bit if I'd gone into "suave" mode and not been a car-guy at that moment.
Well, actually a LATER moment as going directly TO the car wouldn't be a thing I'd have done if I'd suspected a female was driving. By the time I noticed the driver it was too late to change tack.

Funny story,
Drove the XKR to the hospital yesterday (had to have a Colonoscopy to remove multiple polyps before my Heart Cath tomorrow) and after parking and my wife went in to register me, and a nicely dressed elderly lady came walking out and gave me a nice smile as I stood by the XKR. Then after the procedure an even older lady(volunteer) wheeled me out in wheelchair and she asked where I was parked. We are at the edge of the parking lot and I said right there (I was in first disabled spot). She immediately said "Beautiful Jag" and then asked what year it was. I was pleasantly surprised she even knew what it was.
One of the nice perks of an XKR is it certainly is a great conversation starter.
Have a great day,
Dave
