If you had to do it again

If I had the opportunity the only change would be a slightly newer model year.
My 2009 MY is in pristine condition and anyone who sees the car thinks it is a much newer MY (model year).
I get so many compliments no changes are required.
It's 100% stock, just the way Jaguar designed it and built it.

I feel exactly the same about my 2009, and get the same compliments. I, too, would consider a newer XKR cvt only to get the factory back-up camera. I'd want a similar color combination and options like I now have.
Billy Joel said it: "I love you just the way you are.". (The car, of course!)

The power and handling of the 5L XKR has exceeded my expectations in every way. I enjoy every bit of both on the race track, and it's excessive enough on the street to make it irreplaceable for spirited fun use. I followed and admired the shape of an XK coupe in the city for a ways yesterday, but dropping the top on mine adds a whole other dimension of driving enjoyment for me as much today as it did when I was 20 driving my XKE vert.
If I were forced to replace mine today I would again choose between the virtues of the 5L XKR and XKR-S verts, and while they really haven't changed since 2010, I'd buy the newest low mileage one I could afford. Mine has the optional 20" wheels and heated steering wheel/windshield which I like, but I could probably do without either if the otherwise perfect car didn't have them. I find I prefer to use the regular cruise control vs adaptive/radar cruise control on my daily driver, so finding an XKR with that option wasn't necessary.

I bought my first Jaguar in December, 2012. An XKR 175 with 3,500 miles on it. I got the car at an unbelievable price and bought it to sell and enjoy while I had it. As I found out the 175, North American version, is simply a body kit, speed pack. There are no performance upgrades on the North American 175. Consequently, I was disappointed to find the 175 had no performance upgrades. I sold it with 5,500 miles in July 2013. After selling it I missed it so much I had to find a replacement. So, the search began.
I wanted a coupe because I have another car I use as a convertible. During the summer, even on ideal days for the top to be down on my G37 convertible, at the time, I would opt to drive the 175 for the engaged driving experience.
In August, just one month after selling my 175, I purchased my second Jaguar XKR. A 2013, ultimate black, dynamic pack, performance exhaust and ivory interior with only 300 miles from new for a real good price. I was looking for an XKR equipped with the dynamic pack and performance exhaust. The dynamic pack is very noticeable giving a sportier but slightly harder ride. The performance exhaust is blizz--just love the sound. The performance exhaust is much better sounding than the standard. The only thing I would change is the ivory seats. I like the black with cranberry stitching performance seats in the quilted design that are included with the 2014 performance pack. The new packaged "performance pack" on the 2014's is not a performance pack per se. It's an interior and exterior appearance pack. I guess they call it a performance pack because it includes the performance seats and black rims.
The dynamic pack comes with the Vulcan polished rims which are an option on the XKR-S and is marketed as the bright pack at an extra cost of $3,000. The dynamic pack equips the standard XKR with the identical suspension and damper dynamics as the XKR-S.
In my search for a my new XKR I wanted the LED front head lights and back up camera which limited me to a 2012+. I looked seriously at a black 2012 XKR-S which I decided against because the sales women was untrustworthy and the price was $20,000 more than the XKR I bought. Price always plays a part in my purchases. If price where not a concern I would simply just buy an XKR-S in the color I wanted.
In conclusion, current 2013 XKR:
Shopping list must have before purchase-
1. dynamic pack
2. performance exhaust
3. color black
4. back up camera
5. led adaptive front head lights
What I would change if I could have:
I would change the ivory seats to black with cranberry stitching (quilted on the 2014's). The equipped ivory seats still look classy and gives the interior some contrast. As such, the Ivory seats were not a deal breaker. At the time of purchase I wanted cooled seats which are only available with the standard luxury seats, but I like the look of the performance seats.
The XKR puts a grin on my face every time I drive it and it's a joy to take care of.

I have the perfect (for me) 2012 vert. Midnight Black (metallic) w/canvas color top and caramel interior. Oops one change I would make, instead of having caramel colored leather on the dash, I would go with black or some other complimentary dark color. Too many reflections off the light color when hit the wrong way with the sun.
