Just before Christmas I was in the process of purchasing a 2018 F Type SVR. The sales manager frustrated the the transaction to only sell in to someone else for more money. I was so excited I enthusiastically posted it in the F Type forum. I had an agreement with a deposit on the SVR with Land Rover Lakeridge, Ontario. The manager refused to provide a proper BOS and the CPO inspection sheet. I told him to return my deposit which he gladly did to sell the car the next day to someone else. It was a bad experience.

Since, I've been looking for the right car. The new mid engine C8 corvette has caught the attention of my radar. It appears to be a completely new and modern sports car. The C8 Z06 is said to be coming with a 5.5L 850HP flat crank engine with the sound of a Ferrari. However, I will need to wait another 2 years or so to get one in a convertible. I've been Jagless and sports carless for 4 years (seems more like 1) and didn't want to wait another 2 years before getting into a sporty car to put a smile on my silly face. I picked up a 2014 XKR today with dynamic pack, peformance pack, and black pack with only 13,000 miles for a very reasonable price. It even comes with CPO warranty until June 2020. I should have it home next week. This deal is done and the salesman at the Porsche dealership was excellent. It's good to finally be bad, again. I'll keep this car until the new C8 Z06 comes out and are on the road for a bit. I prefer to buy cars slightly used rather than take the initial new car hit. I bought my other XKR's (2011 175 with 1,200miles, long story, and 2013 with 300miles) almost new. This 2014 XKR convertible is now 5 years old from its in-service date.

Congrats! And welcome back!
I see it comes with the windscreen, OEM or aftermarket?

Thanks. The windscreen is OEM. Is there a difference in OEM and after market?

That's just great. Congratulations! It's a real looker. When are you coming out this way again? I'll gather up Ralph and we can have some lunch and a couple of beers. I'll even bring out the Pantera which is finally running correctly. It's good to see that the Corvette finally got its mid-engine status since they've been promising it since the Pantera debuted in 1970. It only took 50 years!

Thanks Ted. Next time I'm in the area I'll ping you. It doesn't take much to get me to go to beautiful sunny southern California and enjoy a Sierra Nevada. I just got back from a family trip to San Francisco, Yosemite, Napa Valley, and Monterey--had a great time. Wish I had the Jag when I was there. I'm hoping Chev got the C8 right. It looks like a promising platform, updated electronics, all aluminum chassis, light weight, dual clutch transmission, mid engine, magnetic suspension etc. Even looks like the interior is nice. It's definitely an interesting car. Your Pantera is certainly a unique car and must be a blast to take out ever know and again. I'm looking forward to being in a Jag again. It's my first convertible Jag. Maybe Ralph can give me a few pointers with the convertible.

You should report the dealer to Jaguar Canada.

Yes, they're slightly different designs but the biggest difference is the price. I have the Adamesh aftermarket rear wind deflector (to Brits the windscreen is the windshield) and have been very pleased with it. I rarely remove it because I fold it down when I put the top up. Everything you need to know is in this old thread, including pictures:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...flector-62273/

P.S. Since you already have the OEM rear wind deflector, what you now need is The Jag Wrangler's DIY Remote Control Soft Top Kit. Steve is a long-time Forum member and many X100 and X150 owners have his kit. I was one of his first X150 customers in 2014, and my comments about my DIY installation are in post #153 on Page 8 in this old thread:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-109235/

I just gave them a bad review along with many other people. There are so many bad dealerships and salespeople around. I have no time for them. I'm just glad I bought this car from a very good salesman (friendly, understanding, trustworthy, upfront, and when the extra mile). He sent me over 50 pictures, including the above pictures, measured the tread wear on all tires and answered all of my questions. I never seen the car or took it for a test drive. He made me feel comfortable enough that I decided to just buy it without travelling to see it. I know I won't be disappointed.

You probably know all of this already, but just in case...

a. Be aware of water pump issues (many revisions, not really fixed until 2016)
b. Be aware of chain, tensioner, and guide issues (updated parts came into effect early 2015)
c. This engine is very sensitive to oil change neglect, go above and beyond or you will end up paying the mechanic
d. You are overdue on coolant, transmission fluid and filter, brake fluid, air intake filter service if it wasn't already done by PO
e. If you drive hard, get Michelin Pilot 4S, it will transform your car. Otherwise get used to driving sideways.

Excellent advice. I'm aware of most of the above. You delineated it perfectly. Thanks.

Hey Glen - Congratulations and welcome home/back. You are going to have a ball with the XKR. I second the advice to buy theJagwrangler.com remote top control with the rear window control add-on. IMO it is the best single accessory you can add to the vert. On top of that Steve Klonsky the inventor/fellow forum member is a super guy.

Karen and drove up to the Pebble Beach car week in the XKR three weeks ago and had an absolute ball. Ping me the next time you are out our way and Ted and I will arrange a get together. Regards, Ralph

Good day, Ralph. I hope those fuzzy ***** are treating you well. The US Open Finals should be good. I'm considering the remote from Steve. Yes, I have great confidence in Steve's product. Picked up my first mod yesterday; bought a set of aluminum paddle shifters on ebay. I still have 3 sets of "Jaguar" floor mats, about 6 "Jaguar" shadow courtesy lights, and a set of aluminum peddles with foot rest in the garage to install when the car arrives next week. I'll remove the stock medal peddle covers that come with the performance pack and install the ones I have. CPO was a bonus on the car. The Porsche dealer never knew about it, and I'm not telling them. I found out it had CPO when I called the Jaguar dealership which serviced the car and asked if it had one.

I'll definitely reach out to you and Ted next time I'm in the area. Good to hear you're enjoying your Jag. I miss Southern California--so, many great times, and the weather isn't too bad either, lol. Cheers, and see you around the forum.

As a fellow black XKR owner... I LOVE the look of your ride. Kinda wish I'd waited for one with the black pack to show up. (Love your other options but I can't give up my cooled seats...)

I may be one of the few convertible owners on here who's lived at least a year with both the Adamesh and OEM wind deflectors. While Adamesh wins on price, hands down (which is obviously not a factor for you) and is a sturdy unit... the OEM is better in every other respect, my opinion. Wish I had mine back.

I'm also LA area. Be happy to join your ride-around if I'm in town.

Anway... NICE RIDE!!

Default Pk4144

pk4144, thanks for the comments. We'll all need to meet up in LA some time. Yes, the cooled seats feature is nice. I seen this advertised at a Porsche Dealership and jumped on it.

Hey Loth, Good to hear from you. I often thought about how things were going with you. We had lots of fun on this forum chatting about our Jags. I'm looking forward to getting the car delivered this week. See you around the X150 forum. Cheers

Hey Ross, it's good to be back in the clowder. I hope to get caught up with the news on the X150 since my last ownership. Good to see you and all of the other cat lovers enjoying their rides.
