Hey, lads! I've always wanted to share this story with you, but for some reason, I never got around to it.
Back in 2019, when I was still living in Miami, my kids mentioned there was a car show happening on a Saturday. So, we decided to check it out. As we were looking for a parking spot, we accidentally ended up at the entrance where the "super cars" were parking. To our surprise, the security guard graciously opened the gate for us. Somehow, our XK with those "stunning" 19-inch Chromed Arturas rims (not even an XKR) managed to pass for a seriously special car.
I found a spot and parked the car, all the while expecting someone to tap me on the shoulder and say, "Hey, buddy, that's not a supercar!" But that moment never came. In fact, not only did no one question us, but by the end of the event, we left alongside Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and Ford GTs. People were taking pictures, and my kids were left exchanging confused glances.
I've attached some pictures for you to check out. Have any of you ever had a similar experience? It was definitely a day to remember!
Funny story but I got 2 things to say:
How can you consider a Ford GT being a "supercar" and not a Jaguar XK?
Never ever in Europe a Ford of any kind has been refered as a supercar...
And the Jaguar XK really appears what it is, a very rare and beautiful car.
It's much rarer than a Porsche 911...
And it's a jaguar that still says" I'm a Jaguar".Extremely chic, elegant, timeless. In 25 years it'll be considered as the E-type is today.
The brand itself is not considered as any other . In most people's mind it's in the same court as Bentley, Rolls-Royce and others..If you have a Jag it might be your second car after the bentley. If you have a jag it's because you want to stay low profile more than you would with a Rolls-Royce...That's how Jaguar are sought on this side of the pond.
Plus, they made supercars before the word ever exists... (even though they lost themselves with tata, trying to be in the same court as other generalists such as BMW or Mercedes and specialising in that stupid trend of SUVs, most people ignore about this and still have the idea these are the Royalty cars,Full Conolly leather, woods and all ).And they are about to turn again into an exclusive car brand.
So YES you were at the right place place. Because what matter is not how you think you are, it's how people feel and know you are.
People feels your Jaguar is a supercar. So it's a supercar :-)
LOL no not me. best I got was leaving the auto parts store, a guy rushed out and asked "What is that? A Jaguar? It's a Jaguar isn't it? Yeah that's a jaguar. I knew it. It's a Jaguar. Sweet." I never answered him. I think he was just thinking out loud.

you are totally right and I love my Jag, the second jag I have. But it probably cost now what the ceramic breaks of one of those cars 😂.
Never heard of it in the press over here. Probably not sold in Europe.
And you know, money is not the prime valor . A supercar is not expensive. It's exclusive and tend to perfection, if it's expensive or not doesn't define its status.
(Same for luxury. There's no such thing as industrial luxury. Vuitton bags are not Luxury. They are expensive. That's different.)

I would swap my XKR for that Ford GT in a heartbeat. I am devoted to Jaguars and have driven them for over 30 years. But the Ford GT is something else. it's not the name, it's the machine.

Oh, it's a supercar for absolute certainty. Probably closer to a hypercar.
I find great enjoyment in grand touring cars, and I hold the X150 in high regard. Regardless of the model or engine choice, it makes for an exceptional grand tourer that boasts remarkable reliability, a quality I experienced with the prior engine in my 2006 XKR and now with the 5.0. Its design is equally splendid. Interestingly, the brand's history of occasional reliability issues is actually working to our advantage.
The X100 also holds a special place in my heart, and sometimes I regret parting with my 2006 XKR. However, the core of my message here is that I understand it's not a supercar, and that suits me just fine. I'm not super in any aspect of my life, so seems fair right? ;-)

I'ld prefer an xj220.Even more after reading Jeremy Clarkson feedback about that Ford

"THAT" Ford and the new model Ford GT are eons apart. I've wanted an Aventador for years, but that's been replaced. My ultimate "Want" car is now a 2020 Ford GT.

I thought the XJ220 was a bit of a disappointment when they finally finished it. The less well-known TWR XJR-15, on the other hand, was interesting... even with a production 6 litre V12 rather than the 6.7L Group C engine...

2006 2020
You might think I'm crazy but I like the red one better. That model is just timeless, not sure it really worth what it cost though...
I also like the previous generation of Ford GT (2005-2006) to the current one. For the same reason that I dislike most Lamborghinis, they're too fussy, not graceful. The older design is sleeker, more graceful, and to me more elegant. When I bought my early model De Tomaso Pantera 25+ years ago, I never really considered the later GT5 or GT5S models with the huge flared fenders, the running boards and the Countach style wing, it took away from the svelte design that Tom Tjaarda originally penned, 25 years later, I still feel the same way.
Thanks Steve,
I just don't like the way the huge flares fit over the front wheels. It looks like there's a cave in there. And that big wing would be better used as a cutting board for a six foot Subway sandwich.. But, it's an impressive build even if you can't use the trunk anymore.
