Info System (touchscreen) Firmware update from 2007 to 2012 - is it possible?
On my previous car (BMW 6 series) I managed to have the idrive firmware updated from 2005 to 2011 via a BMW dealer. The whole screen interface changed to a more modern look. My car was in for some warranty work and the dealer gave me a 2013 XKR and as obvious the infotainment screen had a completely different graphics interface than that of my 2007 car - my 07 car has a green screen where is the newer cars are based on a Blue screen.
Anyone know if the 07 firmware can be updated to a newer system or is it a whole new screen system that is required. I know the navigation software can be updated but even on that the graphics on the new car are much more crisp and modern.

The hardware will also be hugely different which would prevent any serious upgrade.
Screen resolution, processor power and audio architecture have all changed massively over the last 10 years.
The new systems do look fantastic! It is however, a different architecture.
I was a product development manager for BMW audio/entertainment systems until 2009. The platform that your 6 series was based on did not change for a long time as it was a great system for its launch date. The Jag system was out of date much sooner after launch.
BMW constantly strive to improve the look and feel of the vehicle throughout its life and the audio systems are updated more often than many car manufacturers.
