If you go the OEM, SDD (Symptom Driven Diagnostics), here is a list of approved devices. As far as which version of software you need, you can use version 118 - 123 and you'll be fine for you model year. Those versions also contain IDS (Integrated Diagnostic System) which was the earlier version that Jaguar used and some find it easier to use. The software version numbers increase as new models were added. Not an issue for you. Get the software from someone here on the forum. Mine's customized so I can't shared it, otherwise I'd be happy to. I think Graham makes downloads available to users. I believe a few guys here are happy with the DA Dongle and cable.
Also, be aware you need to have the car on a charger while doing anything with SDD, except maybe reading DTC's. I'm not talking about a 10 volt car charger. See attached. Midtronics is the one Jaguar recommends but you and find others for less $. I use an Actron.
I agree with 80srule that given your issues, you'll want SDD vs iCarsoft or Foxwell or Autel units. They won't give you the full 7 digit DTC, just the first 5.

i am having the issue a lot of people report of an intermittent screen; however, what I notice is that the radio will not turn on and the aerial mast does not extend.
Are these related problems or seperate issues?.
I also had the dead button issue last week where the care would not start and was completely dead. the only thing I had was the engine management light illuminated.
the car was recovered last tuesday by an RAC sub contractor and is still sitting in the secure lock up today _ RAC are not going to enjpy our chat on Monday!
Can anyone recommend a code reader
Thank you
Chris

Hi
Well i was 100% sure it was not the battery as i checked it and it was 12.7 V and when the recovery guy came he agreed it was ok. It was sat with the recovery firm for 6 days before they moved it to a local independent Jag specialist near where I live so I have no idea what happended while it was there. Except to say they got it going and drove it onto the trailer when they brought it back even though it was dead as a dodo when they initially revovered it.
So, it had a new battery and the garage re-set everything including a windown reset and cleared all faults with their SDD reader and so far so good.
Sorry I cannot be of more help

Hi Cee Jay
Well as much as I thought it wasn't the battery it was!
The previous owner had a new battery fitted in 2019 and I don't think it was a particularly good one.
There is an independent Jag specialist near where I live where the car was recovered to and they have fitted a new battery and touch wood, no further issues - long may it continue.......
