As you will know, the Instrument Binnacle is not available as a separate part from Jaguar but this does not prevent removal and substitution with one from another Fascia asembly.
When I read your post earlier this week, I was convinced the Binnacle was not LH or RH and the same component would fit either configuration. Today is the first opportunity I've had to closely examine my XK.
Unfortunately the Binnacle is NOT symetrical about the centreline (marked in BLUE). It's very close but there is a difference. The radius on the left (marked in ORANGE) is tighter than the radius on the right (marked in GREEN).
Looking at the pictures I had exactly the same impression. But...
I have also done some research. I asked Jag parts seller who has both LHD and RHD dashboards to check it covers might fit one another. He checked and said - in his opinion they do. He mentioned that the only difference is a foam/seal, which is glued inside (don't know which exactly), but it can be potentially moved to the other side.
Yeah, but the guy might have his agenda to sell me RHD part to a LHD car, so it's not a 100% trusted source of info...
Thwarted! My gauge fits the console side but is too big to fit against the pillar side.
He could be right. Looking from the driver's seat it appears symetrical However, looking directly down from above standing beside the vehicle it definitely doesn't but this could be distortion of the view though the curve of the glass.
To me, the binnacle does not look to have the same curvature on both sides. The outer side (nearest the window) looks to have a sharper slope. and the bottom looks a little different on that side as well.
That's the manufacturer's code - not the JLR part number. The JLR number would be on a white paper self-adhesive label. For example, the complete Facia is C2N2636LEG for my warm charcoal dash. The first 7 characters are the part identifier and the final 3 are the colour.
