So this got me interested in world record production car speeds. the wiki on it is pretty interesting https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Produc...r_speed_record. I'm sure you all know the xk120 was the world's fastest car for a bit at a blistering 124.6mph, but what I think is interesting is that so many of the world's fastest cars were considered iconic for other reasons than just being the fastest. DB4, AC cobra, Lambo Miura (loveit!), Lambo Countach, 959, McLaran F1 have all been my dream cars forever and I never knew they all had that in common.

What I found stunning about the wiki article was that it effectively said the XK was the most successful at 12,000 produced! the closest competitor the Ferrari Daytona and Merc 300Sl only sold 1400!
Best example ever of William Lyons making dream cars that people could actually own.
Its one thing to make an outlandish car that no one can attain, anyone can do that, its another to make it on a production basis.

I don't think many cars have the HP / aero ratio to do 200 mph and it's been known for a long time that the street tires are the limiting factor on how long you can safely run 200+ regardless of maker.
Q+C, several years ago I was doing an engine rebuild on a 60's Mercedes 280 and ended up taking the head to a Euro shop after my machine shop screwed up the valve guides twice. There shop was in an old barn and had two gull wings in one of the out buildings. One fully restored and the other in process. A bunch of semi exotic Euro stuff in the bays and the place looked like it was transplanted from England. Owner spent about an hour talking cars and reminiscing. Said he got a ton of work from DC and Baltimore because their local shops didn't understand the heritage of the cars they were working on. Check it out;

Looks like a great place to buy a car from, they know best which car is coming on the market and so on. Its on my way when I drive to NY. Will pop in.
I would love to save-up and buy anything that Zagato made as my daily driver. Like the Fiat in the pic below.
But you know the funny thing in life is, when you have that kind of money, cars mean nothing to you. At least not what they mean when you can only dream of them. In many regards, my Jaguar then may be the car that excited me the most, for this maybe the richest moment.
I may settle for a Jag M2, like Ian did.

You also have to look at the tires involved, how would the car going 300MPH handle? Is the compound grippy enough for good cornering?
Then there is the fit, finish, and style, these aren't relevant to going 300MPH, but they are relevant to the feeling you get when you walk up to get in the car.
