Interesting so we do have roll over protection on convertible cars
So we have a drag racing event planned at Willow springs California coming up soon and I just found out the convertible cars are not allowed without a roll overprotection, roll cage, roll bar. So I did some quick googling and came out with this part number C2P24801 that appears to be a roll over bar that pops up from inside our seats on xk and xkr cars. Really pleasantly surprised that we have this feature now it makes more sense why convertible cars are a few hundred pounds heavier than a coupe.
I think the Roll-Over Protection would be about the last thing I'd take out. Maybe right before the airbags. In some sort of emergency maybe, or if a real cage or roll bar was added.
The X150 system is not like the roll bar in my old 1993 600Sl, which deployed either automatically based on the angle of the vehicle or by the driver pressing a button on the dashboard. You can't manually deploy the XK roll bars, and it's rather expensive to test yours to make sure they'll work when needed.
I can attest that they work for sure. I bought a salvage vehicle from Florida that had been rolled and both of the units fired into the extended position. The front windscreen A pillars still bent a bit due to the angle but the tops of the seats were still in good shape. If I didn't drive a coupe they would be the last thing I would take out!
I wouldn't take them out unless I have a roll bar then I would take it out for the weight savings maybe , by the looks of it I might have to install one since the car is getting faster and they're getting more picky at the tracks.
