Default Italian tuneup on XKR-S

It’s finally getting cooler so I wanted to get some more wheel time before putting the girl away before the salt comes.

I almost always drive in dynamic mode and S mode. Anyway, after a nice drive in the recent gorgeous sunshine I head home and pick up a couple of ricers on the highway.
They try to bait me a few times until I finally give in and drop into 3rd and wind it out a few times.
Almost to my exit, I wind it out again this time close to the limiter with the flashing gear change.

So anyway, I run it slow and cool for the rest of the way home and notice that the motor sounds a little quieter than normal.

Does the 5.0L enjoy a good Italian tune up? Seems like mine enjoyed it, as did I.

I try to give my cars an "Italian Tune Up" from time to time. I think it is a good thing to do. Cleans out the cobwebs.

Actually.......it's a long video but explains quite well what the issues are with direct inject and what works and what does NOT work such as Italian tune ups...

I've been considering a carbon removal service, but so far I'm just too lazy to get it done. I'm at 67,000 miles so it'd be a good time to do it. Also, since 'do it', I'd probably get a catch can as that's also a 'too lazy' item on my list.

Regardless of whether the Italian Tune Up works you at least get a Tune Up to your Man Card. Getting on it will get you out of that grandma driving, get the adrenaline flowing, ditch those blue pills and go home for some Lovin'.

What the video does for me is make me think perhaps the engineers failed on GDI and should have come up with something other than a PCV. They went through the effort of improving fuel injection and then buggered it up using incompatible old tech from multi port fuel injection.

:-) The Italian tuneup is how my father taught me 'how' to drive. I think it tunes me up too.

What, you're NOT supposed to use all the power at every opportunity during normal driving?
I'm with guy, I use every bit of power I can every chance I get.

Like CeeJay I have a need for speed. Hence the reason I sold my CBR1000RR. Seems me and a machine with 0-60 in 2.9 seconds and a quarter mile in the low 10 seconds was a dangerous mix, although I had survived for 20 years. Loved the thrill, but saw one to many road splats in a 2 wheel vs 4 wheel collision, ain't a gonna be a statistic.

Since this is an Italian Tune thread, funny story, when I had had the crotch rocket couple years back it was a rough winter. You know, 50 degrees over a couple of months. So the moto was a no-go zone, when it warmed up to a livable temp of 65 I took out the bike for the subject line. There is a stretch of road leaving my hood that is exactly one mile, no light, no intersection, and when it is clear just let the accelerator rip. So I made the turn on to said road and with the desire to knock the cob webs out of the system gave it hell as I turned on to the straight, had a bit of a rear end squiggle but kept the front end planted. The bike was loud with aftermarket exhaust so it was a real event at open throttle. After already committed I see going the other direction the long arm of the law, oh boy, I am in second gear and already breaking the speed limit on most interstates. He flips the rollers on and u-turns, I am already at the next light. I could try to run but decided to play it cool, he came up and we pulled over, took off my helmet, showed him my license with organ donor designation (a must of any motorcycle owner). Faced with a 45 year old he just gave me a warning, I knew he couldn't have clocked me, so it was just a rousting to teach me a lesson. Clearly I was too old for that, plus I told him I was just burning some carbon off the plugs and wasn't looking to hotdog. Anyway, I was away with a warning so it was all good. Italian Tune successful with a slight delay.

By the way, I love hitting that stretch in the Jag, in sport mode and traction off, I admire Stiggy and his XKR-S.

Haha! My wife hasn’t let me ride in 20yrs. I too was a rider of crotch rockets back in my youth. My penchant for illegal speeds would have made me a donor long ago so I’m glad to have been restricted to four wheels.

I was surprised how smoothly “Eva” pulls as the speedo sweeps the dial. Will do it a couple more times before the cold descends here in Indiana.

Ah, the good ole days.... I too had a ZX9R in my younger days. I traded over to a Honda Magna when I started to lose my hair, and I still have it. Nearly pristine 1998.
For raw acceleration, I have my Mustang II, does the 60-foot in 1.4 and the quarter in about 9 seconds. I can't really USE that much anymore, as the local strip bit **** a few years ago. Once in awhile I take it on the streets and cause commotion.
