Wash the car for cryin' out loud! And maybe vary the view of the car from the rear quarter passenger side which was in about 50% of all the video. Otherwise, well done for as we all know, a great car.

I can understand why people like to compare the XKR with the V8 Vantage, but really there is no comparison. They serve two different markets IMO. The AM costs a lot more, has less power, is way more exclusive, costs a fortune to service and maintain and, arguably has the edge on looks (being more aggressive looking). The AM has a harder edge, more raucous exhaust note, harder suspension and is probably more 'exciting' to drive. But the XKR is beautiful in a timeless way, more relaxing to drive, yet still more powerful than the AM, way more affordable and almost certainly more reliable. So in the end it comes down to what someone can afford (to buy and to maintain) and to personal preference IMO. Both are truly great cars and although I can't see me swapping my XKR for a Vantage (ever) I am sure that if I owned a Vantage I would be more than delighted.

He is an awful lot of man for an XKR
(I am sorry I could overlook that in all this talk of weight reduction)

The video has nothing that everyone in here doesn't already know. That's why we ARE here!
I'm with barnsie though...
I've always considered the AM comparison should be the VANQUISH, not the V8 Vantage. Truth be told, if there is no Jaguar replacement for the XK in the next few years, my next car WILL be a Vanquish of some sort. S-Volante, probably. Used, as I'm not dumb enough to lose $100,000 in one or two years. Although, Astons DO retain more value than Jaguars.

DB9 or Vanquish is more appropriate compare than a Vantage to the XKR. Vantage is a full on sports car; the XKR is not. Vantage vs. F Type would be better.

Cars that cost more new, cost more to maintain used. I find Aston's to be a more engaging drive than Jaguars and intent ownership is different. The XK may have the best silhouette out of the DB9 or Vantage, but other parts that make up the price difference in Aston aren't for nothing.

I see a Bentley Continental GT in my future, if I ever decide to swap out my XKR. (Used of course, for the same reasons as you). No comparison really with anything - the Continental GT is kinda unique, but obviously much more in the GT arena than the sports arena. But for now, and the foreseeable future, I am loving my XKR.

I'd like one too, but waiting for the V8's to come down in price before it's a real consideration.

It'd have to be a convertible or a C-GT is a no-go.

I agree with Barnsie as well.

The V8 Vantage is smaller and not a grand touring car. I'm not sure why the person in the video seems to think the two are comparable, even mentioning the manual gearbox in the Vantage as more appropriate for both cars. I don't believe most people who purchased the X150 new were that interested in a manual gearbox.

So many like to put the Vantage into a GT category because it has swank refined interior. Doesn't help when Aston releases a "GT" moniker on the Vantage as well. For them it meant softer springs and some interior options. Vantage is not really GT car.

Just like most who bought a DB9 new did not want a manual either. I have been an ardent manual fan for a long time, but now I have finally warmed up to the paddles after driving a few engaging paddle cars. The XE and XK were not among those. I thought they did better in auto mode, while the Aston is not so good in Auto mode, but brilliant with the paddles.

Agreed. Driving is more fun topless.

Yeah I've seen a few of these around Hollywood and they're stunning. Sadly, even used a little rich for my blood...

For me, the Aston Martin is less appealing because of the expense potential.

Once cost is removed, they are different sets of compromises.

For an only car, the XKR would win. More space, game over.

Having driven both, i prefer my XKR for my uses as a daily driver. Having driven a DB9, I'd really like to add one and have it coexist with my XKRs since i felt it was a little sportier of a GT but still very liveable for my dd desires.

When i was 18 i bought a Corvette, and at 23 i swapped it out for my 2000 XKR, which at 9 years later I'm still very happy with. I found myself liking that i could have some power but a comfortable ride and nice interior; and not wanting to have a singular toy car that's too hard edged. The XK platforms really are great cars, which the Vantage absolutely is as well, but quite different. Buy what fits your lifestyle.
