Jaguar approved oil for $16 for 5qts
Very good Jag formally approved oil for the 5.0 engine is on sale for $16.
Stock up while you can. (naturally I did before posting here)
Its also excellent for flushing or double oil changes.
Basically its the cheapest oil you can buy and its the most expensive kind (group 4) cheap synthetic oils are usually group 2 or 3.

Why is it good for flushing?

This oil is good enough to use by itself, so if the argument is that during flushing 2qts of this oil remains, you will be fine and much better than 2qts of old exhausted oil, or cheap synthetic oil, which makes new oil breakdown faster.
As a side, this oil has one of the best cleaning abilities of any oil on the market. So the flushing period could be 30 days and you get the benefit of engine cleaning. You could not do that with shitty oil, as it will be in worse shape than the old oil you took out, putting you back to square one. So most folks who do double oil changes, remove the cheap oil immediately. The kicker is, this oil is cheaper than the cheap oil folks use.

Does NOT meet Jaguar specs
That oil DOES NOT meet the latest Jaguar 5.0L motor oil specification for 5W-20, which is WSSM2C925A. It meets WSSM2C945-B1.
Does WSSM2C945-B1 supersede WSSM2C925A? I was unable to find any definitive source that said so, although some Forum members contend that higher numbers are backwards compatible with lower numbers - but I'm not so sure that's accurate.
Your car, your money, your choice.

Both the ACEA A/B standards were eliminated in 2016 and updated to C. All fully backward compatible.
ILSAC is another body of standards.
Ford says this about the 4.2:
The Ford M2C913-B specification is released in Europe for initial fill engine oils used for lubrication of spark ignition engines using gasoline and for compression ignition engines using diesel fuels. The specification is also used to define engine oils for servicing Ford engines where applicable. The oil shall meet all the requirements of the ILSAC GF-2 and GF-3 specification, the ACEA A1-98 and B1-98 specification and additional Ford requirements.
ILSAC - GF5 is fully backward compatible with GF - 4, 3, 2 etc...
The 5.0 spec is WSS-M2C925-A is also ILSAC - GF5 compliant
I think your safe and perhaps over thinking it. If I had the 5.0 I would use it. I use the same oil, but 5w30 in my car. Handy chart here:

And a handy video. Note 3/4 of the way through, they say the oil is fully backward compatible.

And one more document, if you haven't already seen it. And if you didn't already know, Shell is the parent company of Pennzoil. Don't be dissuaded by the price, it is one of the most highly rated mass market oils out there. JLR has an exclusive contract with Castrol, they have for many years, to use their products in factory fills, that is why they are "RECOMMENDED"...only the specification is required, not the brand.

Due to JLR exclusive contract with Castrol, they legally can NOT approve anything other than Castrol. However manufacturers CAN state their product meets JLR specification by law.

How do you derive that conclusion?
Its JLR Approved. If JLR says it meets its specs.

I cannot understand why guys/gals cannot get past the JLR recommended literature?!? Surely no one can think that oil that was made a decade ago would be better than the current technology just because the bottle says recommended on it... Unless you have a warranty that states you MUST use a certain oil, your just being bull-headed...

In the DIY oil community, Pennzoil ULTRA was regarded as one of the best oils, money no object, when it was $44 and it had to be shipped (before days of Amazon shipping for free oil that weighs a lot- local stores did not carry it, and to my last knowledge auto shops like Advance, Zone, Pep , still dont carry Ultra)
But we were just going on our own research and pedestrian experience.
Then the ultimate testament came when JLR who has one of the longest OCI said this oil meets their spec. The thing is that Pennzoil did not have to formulate an oil to meet JLR spec!! Their existing oil met it. No other company can say that not even Castrol.
To put it in context, If you contacted Mobil1 in USA 2 years ago, they would tell you none of their oils met JLR specs (they formulated one for Europe). And we already knew that M1 used low-grade group 2/3 oil that could not stand up to a 12 month oci in a DI engine. (and in my 250,000 mile truck, I would burn 1.5 quarts of M1 in 1000 miles, almost none of P.Ultra.)
