Default Is this a Jaguar windshield issue

In the northeast we have this toll pay system called EZPASS. We get a small transmitter to put on our windshield which is triggered when we go through a bridge or toll road. I took the one from my wife's car and am using it in the XKR. So far it failed to trigger the toll gates twice. My car has the heated front windshield and I was wondering if this would cause the problem. My question is has anyone else had this problem and do you have the heated windscreen . I get no help from the EZPASS people. I have 3 other vehicles and this same transmitter works in these cars.

Hey Jagtoes

Just an idea.
I had the same issue in the UK at Dartford toll bridge I moved the location of the transmitter a few times until I found a workable position.
I thought it may be the angle of the screen at first
Many cars have heated front screens and its does not seem like an associated problem.
I would suggest you leave the transmitter loose next time you go through the toll and see if by moving it around activates it.

I'll give it a go next time but we also have high speed ezpass lanes that if it doesn't trigger it becomes a violation. I'll see if moving it around does the trick.

Well...

I have Ez pass in both our Rover and Jag. Rover has heated windshield and neither car have given me an issue. In the XK, keep the transponder in the door and hold it when going through. The Rover it is Velcro'd next the rear view mirror.

Yep have seen that and as I had a difficult decision in mounting a front licence plate this would be tougher (uglier) LOL

While I don't use an EZPASS in New Mexico because we don't have toll roads, I have a close friend in Florida who uses an EZPASS device.

He has small suction cups attached to the device and just sticks it close to the mirror when leaving home knowing that he will drive the car on a toll road.

When not on a toll road, he keeps it in his glove box in a foil type bag.

It's on their site - the Jag isn't mentioned by name but it does say that cars with heated wind screens may have difficulties and might need an external tag

I just hold my ezpass to the glass as I go under the system (I just use it for a toll bridge).... But in truth it only triggers half the time. Still not a problem because when they run my plates, they see I have a pass (and the image shows it on the glass) so they adjust the price manually...
My point is even without heated glass it can be flaky....

Live in Florida and have what we call Sun Pass and its on the windshield by the review and no problems. It stays there attached to the window. Wife has no issues with her Yukon XL. I think the angle might be the issue.

We called EZPASS NY today and were told if you have a heated windshield with wires embedded this is the cause of intermittent readings. They will send the licence plate mount to alleviate the problem.

The heated screen will have very fine METAL elements running through it. These will make the screen largely opaque to radio frequency (RF) energy. I believe the EZPass device in your car is very much like an RFID tag that you see attached to merchandise in a store. The toll area has transmitters/readers that detect your EZPass... or not if your car has become a Faraday cage.

Yep , that's the problem. It's easy with the top down as all I need to do is stick it up in the air.

Default So you radar detector guys

If the wires in the windshield block the transmitter from EXPASS then for you folks that use radar detectors does this have an effect on it's capabilities.

It does (there is usually a paragraph in the manual that mentions heated screens). There are also several cars that set of my laser detector when they drive by - Any Infiniti with a heated windscreen will set it off and it reacts from quite some distance away. The tail lights on the Trailblazer do the same thing.
