Jaguar XKR-S vs Aston Martin V8 Vantage
#21
I have not tracked my XKRS . I don't plan on it either... But I am going to the academy this October. I cannot wait to see how the regular XKR performs on the track. I would assume that they do not allow XKRS models to be in this Academy? Hopefully they have an F-type available to drive around and at least.

Mike and I attended the same r academy in Vegas. It is a great course. You get to drive the cars (Xkr) as hard as you can on an auto cross track and mostly on a road course. In many instances, the instructors will push you much harder than you would if you were on the track alone.

F type vs Vantage
I'm hoping that it will do well. It looks like Jag got serious about making a sports car again. They have to get better control of the oversteer problem. Oversteer is desirable up to a point and then becomes just down right dangerous! See "Best Drivers Cars 2012" MotorTrend I think. Randy Popst (SP?) talks about it.
Cheers!

[QUOTE=Octurbo;664436]Maybe I am being too tough on the XKRS. I'm surprised to hear that it beat the DBS. It surprises me that a better balanced lighter car can be outperformed by a heavier tail happy car. Any times for the V12 Vantage?

The 2010 XKR handling on the track is very well balanced, with driver input inducing understeer and oversteer when desired. The car is confidence inspiring even with DSC OFF and sliding it through corners from Turn-In to Track-Out. The Dunlops grip very well when up to temperature.
While the XKR-S would be faster due to its extra power, I can't help wonder from all the comments if its suspension and tire changes haven't hurt the ease with which it can be driven fast by non-professional drivers. Randy Pobst questioned that as well.
The first things I would consider is putting a better set of tires on it, dial back your speed a bit, get more seat time behind the wheel, and more instruction if your driving skills aren't at an advanced level. And if all that isn't possible then just skip the tires
