Burl walnut was not available on the 2009 XKR Portfolio, although it was available on other models. The only Portfolio choices were either Rich Oak or Spun Aluminum. Since richzak posted pics of his Spun Aluminum dash, I thought you'd like to see the Rich Oak dash in my 2009 Portfolio:

I'm Old School and love the wood, particularly in my XJ:

That aluminum is nice but I am definitely in the traditional wood trim camp. My '12 has the piano black center section with the wood trim in dash and doors, for me it is the right amount, not too gaudy.

I have never had a desire to change the trim to carbon fiber. Many of the BMW folks would wrap the trim pieces with faux carbon fiber or layer them with real CF. I never liked that look either. If I bought a Ferrari with them it would fit the car very well!

Trust me. In person everyone compliments . The clear sounds interesting. I wonder if a paint ceramic coat would work? Is the clear a pro job only?

I totally agree. The images posted above do not do the Spun Aluminum dash justice. The design engraved into the aluminum is very well defined when seen with the naked eye.

@ StuartS love the color combo with those seats, the charcoal and the wood.

Also, did you do a mod to meridian sound?

I believe all 2009 Jaguar XKR Portfolio Editions came with the Bowers & Wilkins sound system. There were no other options or choices that I am aware of.

The Meridian stereo is in his other Jaguar which is an XF.

Sure is nice to be able to have 2 Jaguars.

Thanks. I think the color combInation is traditional understated British elegance for a mature gentleman's sporting car; not flashy, but still turns heads. I think Jaguar did the spun aluminum to appeal to younger buyers.

As richzak noted, our 2009 XKR Portfolio convertibles have the Bowers and Wilkins audio. The Meridian audio is in my 2013 XJ, as noted in my signature. I used that photo to show the different wood veneers. The variety and depth of colors and swirls in that XJ burl walnut are amazing and gorgeous, particularly in direct sunlight.

Nope, the Meridian audio is in my XJ; I don't have an XF.

Yep, and I earned them. I suspect that you earned your toys, too.

Yes, at our ages, we all have worked hard to earn the tangible items we have.

Life is relatively short compared to time in general, so we are enjoying the fruits of our labor, as well as so many others.

Too many X's with the Jaguars to get it right, sorry for any confusion caused by my XF vs. XJ screw up. Both beautiful cars.

Enjoy!

On your X150 color combinations, I think the wood is a perfect fit, anything else - aluminum, carbon fiber, piano lacquer - would clash. Mine is a full ebony interior with red stitching and a bit sportier so in my opinion wood is not as suitable.

As far as the new (current) XJ, the burl still fits as well but my favorite is the striped rosewood. I recently saw a XJL Supercharged, white on jet and it had factory carbon fiber veneer and it was just hideous...

I don't know if my opinion is different but may be a little mixed. I like wood trim interiors but for the right type/model of car. In my opinion any British sedan seems at home with would trim while on the other hand and sport type car is more suited to either brushed aluminum or piano black or even carbon fiber. Now what is interesting in my mind is I like the wood trim in the XK but don't like it in the XKR or XKR-S. We all have our own touches so no matter which way we go all you need to please is yourself . Regardless just enjoy it.

"We all have our own touches so no matter which way we go all you need to please is yourself"....Taken way out of context I think our Aussie friends, the Divinyls, wrote a song similar to that in 1990. But I digress...
